Is it normal for a dog to breed 5 days apart?
3 Answers
My Great Dane female bred on November 1st and 2nd. When the male was with her on the 6th she bred again. Is it normal to have puppies 5 days apart? Will some of the babies be bigger than the others?

If a bitch is mated on different dates, she will still only give birth on one day, as the sperm can remain in the bitch for up to a week before finding eggs to fertilize. Occasionally puppies will be born that are less mature than the other pups, and these could be from a later mating, and it is possible to have puppies from two different stud dogs in the same litter.
To clear it up... dogs can have puppies by more than one male but they all come in the same litter. A b!tch will only accept a dog for mating when she is on heat, and thus receptive. If you get puppies 5 days apart the later ones are almost certainly stilborn. Normally the puppies are born all within the one day, even if some have a different father. There is usually a slight difference of size in each of puppy of one litter but that has nothing to do with the day they were conceived.
