My friend who is a dog groomer was asked by one of her clients to take care of his dog in the event of him having to go into a hospice (he had terminal cancer) he told her that he would pay for dogs medication and diatry needs which costs about 70 per month.
Now for the problem
He died last week leaving a daughter and her 2 adult offspring and a house which alone is worth about 250 thousand the daughter rang my friend today to say he had died and that she should come and collect Max (dog) if not they didint want him and would put him in kennels or have him put to sleep, she went round to collect him and asked about money for his medication etc and was told that as far as she knew he had left nothing and that she had the will so no money.
My friend is an animal lover but by no means well off is there any way she can check the will? or get some money off these heartless people i bet the old boys spinning the funerals next week ive told her to go and take Max and try to shame them into coughing up Help Please
ive put this in the law section too

My bet is that he made his wishes known but didn't put it into writing so I doubt your friend can do much there. It will really be down to whether she will take the dog or risk the daughter trying to have it put down.
I'm afraid I don't know what to suggest - are animal charities able to help out in such cases? Your friend sounds like a decent person and I hope something can be sorted out for the poor animal.

What a shame, herbie. Your friend sounds like a really kind person - not just for the poor old dog, but for the old gent, who trusted her to look after his old friend, too. It's such a shame that when someone passes away, little thought is given to their pets by the family. I've no suggestions, I'm afraid, but I do hope that someone can come up with something. Maybe your friend could contact the PDSA and explain the situation - I don't know, but maybe they could assist with the costs, after all, they're supposed to help owners who haven't got much money and your friend has done this out of the kindness of her heart. Good luck. K xx
Some animal charities will take on dogs and cats with medical problems and then let them go to a home as a 'sponsored' animal where the charity will agree to pay the vets bills for the rest of the animals life. I know the Cats Protection League do this.
I would phone round some of the rescue organisations and tell them the situation, i.e. willing to take on the dog but can't afford the bills. It is cheaper for them to pay the vets bills and rehome the dog than it is to keep the dog at the rescue sanctuary.
Just a thought.
