If you mean the canine variety... about 10 to 12 years. Although many die prematurely due to health problems.
Hi there My sister has just lost her beloved GSD at the ripe old age of 13. Due to complications and an incompetent junior vet she may well have lasted longer but she suffered a gastric tortion which if detected early enough can be treated but will probably raise its ugly head in the future. The age old problem with GSD's are their hips. Puppies are scored when they are around 6 months old and each hip is scored. My sisters dog was exceptional with a 2:1 score but breeders can breed from dogs up to 10:10 which appears quite high. Good nutrition, lots of excercise and love will help lengthen any dogs life!
Alsations live to 12-13 years if the hips don't play up.The shepards now this is a tricky one, dependant upon how much work the dog does for them i would say 68-95 years.
If you are thinking of buying a shepheard during puppy stages try not to make the dog jump too much until the bones are perfectly formed, i had a shepherd for sixteen years and one of the tips that an old vet gave me to protect his limbs and joints was to make a ramp for him during his puppy stage especially if you are training it to go out in the back garden you will be surprised how more agile you pet will be and like anything else he will last a couple of years longer and give you a lot of love and pleasure.
