Because otherwise they would smell - same as people?!
Cos no one else does?
It is an animal instinct to remove all blood and scent of the 'kill' from their bodies so that they do not advertise their presence to other predators. You may have noticed that cats groom most carefully just after having a meal. Even if he/she has only consumed a tin of cat food they still have the instinct to clean away all traces.
