Is there a boom in ant populations at the moment? Is everyone seeing lots more ants this year?

I agree lots of ants this year. Small nests but all of them have eggs. Had them march through the house for an hour then six weeks for them to leave.
Hadn't noticed many ants on the ground, but yesterday was apparently 'flying ant day' in Bath - the whole place was crawling with themchildren screaming and adults doing a strange twitching dance everywhere they went. Then by the afternoon they had totally disappeared.
I have noticed that they seem to have two "flying ant days" I'm guessing this is a backup in case the first wave is washed out by rain or something, we just had the second one here in London. The only strange dance I do is trying to avoid stepping on the loveable little creatures.
