Our 15 year old Alsation/border collie cross had to be put to sleep in October, there is a picture of her (Gypsy) at www.petmemorialplace.com.

We will be getting a Cairn terrier puppy at the end of february.
Sorry to hear about your losses over the past year.

We lost Japer our young male cat, was only 6 months old, under horrible circumstances. And young female cat Cleo was hit by a van but thankfully survived!
We also had whiskers, male cat, come home covered in tar and spent a few nights at the vets with intravenous fluids!
Apart from that all others (Collie, 5 cats, budgie, rabbit and 2 fish) are all fine!

Lets hope all us pet owners have a less stressful year this time! (Doubtful ! )

All the best xx
It was a good year for me petwise (shame about everything else, the worst year of my life) We got a kitten called Tigger who is now just over a year old. My sister's goldfish died though, sadly I was the one looking after it at the time and found it lying on the floor as dead as a doornail!
My dog is thankfully still here (sorry about your pets) but over they year has cost me over 800 in vets bills through one thing and another. Did get some of it back through insurance. She has jsut been washed and groomed today so is smelling lovely for a change!

First of all let me say how sorry I am that you've had such a bad year pet wise I think most people who use this site know what it's like. Having said that we've had a good year with Max (apart from a few little doggy mishaps) in fact Max has been really happy since Steve the next door neighbour has moved in with his girl friend and took his five cats with him. Here's hoping you have a better year

Not a bad year in general, but ended on a sad note, Becky aged fifteen and three quarters slipped peacefully away on Christmas night, and was buried on Boxing day at her breeder's home. The other dogs have had a bit of a power struggle, but her daughter aged 12 has taken over as top dog.

On a happier note I reached the pinnacle of my dog show judging career so far, by judging at a Championship Show with a good entry from my breed.

Looking forward to 2008, and hoping we get a much hoped for DNA test for a severe eye problem in our breed, which will enable me to breed a long awaited litter knowing the puppies will not be affected.
It started out ok...but ended on an absolute cr*p note. My cat Cleo is very near death's door as she has terminal cancer. Right now every day is a small gift tho I am willing her to cross over . When I pick her up to cuddle her, her big rumbely purr comes back and it breaks my heart.
I think that it is nice to be able to talk about our furry families here.

I am sad for all you who have had losses this year. I lost my George in 2006 and it was horrible.

However 'Animals and Nature' is seldom overly serious and we all know that the little monsters wind us up, manipulate us, and generally make life fun.

It is nice to come hear and get help from knowledgeable without it being all doom and gloom. People are compassionate as they have real love of animals and a genuine fondness for other animal lovers. But it is not OTT or pack the 'sick bag' sort of compassion. It is sincere.

I will be the first to admit that I post stuff that is not always serious, cats demanding food every five minutes etc - but it is nice to interact with others who have the same problem - I don't want a solution, just a moan and a laugh.

I am sure that up in pussycat heaven animad's cat is sitting crunching her way through two goldfish and playing with my George and sniggering at all those stupid humans.

Sorry to prattle on.

Susan

So sorry about your losses last year, no losses for me although financially big losses with vets bills, in the Summer my 'Borderline' collie was bitten on his lip by an Adder, we almost lost him as his airway became restricted, fortunately he made a full recovery and is back to driving us nutty barking at the Squirrels that antagonise him in the farm wood, my youngest German Shepherd was spayed in November and 3 days later she poked her nose where she shouldn't and was stung a couple of times by wasps (in November!!), I hasten to add that this happened just in our back garden, (if for whatever reason she can't go for a proper walk she makes her own 'fun'!) her head swelled up and again couldn't breathe properly so more money in my Vets pocket, so this year I am going to put them in a huge bubble in the garden and not let them out.................only kidding.
Hope you have a better year this year.
Sorry to hear of all your losses. My year has not been so bad as most of yours as I have two new additiions, but my tabby Diego was attacked by a dog or fox or something twice in the summer, thankfully he is a big cat (part Maine C00n and weighs 18lb!) and he has recovered well. I got two kittens in August called Rafael and Jezebel, but we found out last month that Rafael is actually a Rafaella! In September, a kite swooped into our garden and picked Raffy up but dropped her and she crash landed onto the panelled fencing, apart from being a bit confused about her impromptu flying lesson and being dropped from about 10ft she was fine and is currently "helping" my hubby fit a bathroom by running away with the parts and putting them in her water bowl. She also fell out of a tree, got stuck under a bed and tied herself to the Xmas tree with tinsel. We think she's a bit slow, bless her. Jez was the runt of the litter and is still so tiny and bony but is gaining weight gradually; she is my little baby, she just likes being cuddled all the time :-)

Thankfully I didn't lose any pets in 2007, but I just hope 2008 will be a safer year for my critters, they seem to spend most of their time damaging themselves or being picked on by local wildlife LOL
My Tara had to be put to sleep in September ( I posted and got some lovely replies that I still read when I'm feeling a bit down)

She was 15 and I always promised her I wouldn't let her suffer unnecessarily. We all still miss her terribly, but we know someday we can give another dog a good home.

We're just waiting for the right moment and the right dog!
So, so sorry for your sad loss.It s awful when these things happen, but time heals and memories are for ever.My two dogs [oldies] are still as naughty as ever, they are terriers and never grow up.My three cats are fine they are oldies also but keeping well apart from Rooney who had to have a tooth out and a clean and scrape ect, good job my hubby and myself have a health fund for them as it costs an arm and a leg these days at the vets. Our two G/pigs are fine but their celery bill was high this month due to Christmas. So all in all animad we have been lucky this year. g
animad, Im sorry for your loses, and the loses of the others who have posted, 27 years is an amazing innings for a cat though, you must have lots of fond memories.

Most women, when they fall pregnant, have an adverse reaction to tastes and smells, sadly I had a reaction to my two cats which resulted in me needing to rehome them as I couldnt bare them being anywhere near me or be near the smell of them. not that they were smelly cats! They were my babies and had spent the past year showing them the love and affection they deserved after getting them from a young girl who was trying to treat them more as trained dogs!
Have 2 rescue mogs they are fine but still expensive as they have boosters etc , but who cares they are lovely and bring a lot of joy and fun in to our lives .
I lost dear old Shaney on 27th July ..I still miss him terribly .
It was so sudden too ..liver tumour ..one day he was fine and three days later he was gone .He was 13 .
Awww sorry to hear that Animad. My cats are doing fine thankfully. We'll be going for our dreaded boosters soon but its all worth it.

Before I got Tigger and Blue I had a cat called Snoopy. I'd had him for 15 years and he developed kidney failure. He was put down on my birthday and I was devasted.
I have had the worst and the best this year

The worst, 6 Jan 07 having an old girl put to sleep

The best, having a new (new to me as she is a rescue) and would you believe it a Whippet something
What a nice bunch of people we have on here, makes up for all the cruel devils out there. g
sorry for everyones losses, i lost two oldies, one in 2005 and the other 2006, in 2007 a long awaited puppy died aged 3 days old, together with his brother and sister, and we were left to hand rear the remaining puppy and worrying about the health of the mom...........never again.

Here's to a happy and healthy 2008 for all of us and our pets.
