I didn't get a card but when I had my old cat put down last year the vet who had been treating her phoned to say how sorry she was and apologised for not being on duty when I had to take Minnie in. I though that was nice of her but then again I had spent a lot of time (and money) with them.
Hi - So sorry to hear about Cleo; It is such a hard decision. Hope you are ok. I haven't heard of vets doing that, but I suppose it won't be long before we can buy them in the shops!
My stepmum's vet sent her a card when she had to have her cat put to sleep. I thought it was a lovely gesture.
there has been a range of Sympathy on the loss of your pet card available in clinton cards for at least 10 years

Yes,dot-I do think I have seen them. This is the first time i have gotten one from the vet tho. I had a dog put to sleep a few years ago, and am certain I didn't have one then.
Yep, got a card from the vet too when we had to put the mother of our present moggie put down, this was over 12 years ago already. I thought it was standard practice but this does not seems to be the case.
I think it is a nice gesture. They do not have to do it do they? I suppose if you were cynical, you could consider it a marketing/PR ploy. But why not? For some people the loss of a pet who has been an integral part of their family is a very, very real bereavement. It is not wrong to express sympathy when it happens. Hope you are OK pastafreak. The sadness you feel is such a small price to pay for all the joy Cleo brought into your life. She has gone but she will not be forgotten - she lives on in that special place in your heart. To have loved and lost is better than to have never loved her at all.

Thankyou, persianlady...I appreciate that x
Cat in our house is worshipped like a God.

I think we are all cynical now and when we receive something genuine we are suspicious -its a pity as they probably meant it as they see daily what owners go through.(I mean whats the price of a card set against your bill -neglible

i wasn't suspicious....was touched
Jeeesuzzz -whyt are so many peeps on here touchy tonight.

I was actually saying if you read my thread that we are all guilty of being cynical ergo we dont recognise when its genuine.

O help...............................
Hi, I got a card and flowers when I lost my Dane....the vet was nearly as upset as me!!! For the cynical amongst us....my boy had never been treated by this vet before....I had to take him there as an emergency as he had bloat. We decided that at 11 years old it was kinder to let him go. When I recieved his ashes there was a packet of Forget-me-not seeds in with them....mind you....almost a year on and I haven't been brave enough to plant them....still to soon for me.

morning pasta hope you are starting to feel a bit better what a nice thought from your vet when i had to lose my horse my friend sent me a lovely bouquet of flowers cleo will always be about with you .the morning after i lost him there was an overpowering smell of garlic in my kitchen which both my adult son and i could smell (i dont use garlic and did not have any) the only garlic was up the paddock in the tack room as he had garlic in his breakfast and tea ! my son just said its SAM mum and the smell vanished. now cant see the key board properly and that happened nearly 7 years ago. Ruth
My vets send one, had three now!

Each time the animal on the card looks like the one we have lost. I do appreciate the thought and to me it shows that the practice care about animals and their owners alike. After my dog died they told me that I did not have to deal with the bill there and then and that they would send it to me, again, which I thought was kind.

We used to use one vet who like the animals but really disliked owners.

I am very sorry for your loss too. I am sure you have many happy memories which will keep Cleo alive in your mind.

I keep a photo for my new puppy to see and keep reminding that he has a lot to live up to!! ;-)
