And it seems you are doing that. For the time being keep a sharp lookout all around the house for any place a squirrel or bird 'might' be able to 'squeeze' into; and you would be surprised just how small an opening they require.
Once they make a nest they will always come back, from-time-to-time, to see if it is available. I had a family of Starlings and so did the house next door. It took me several months but eventually I blocked off all access points; early Spring is the crucial period for looking and sealing access points. But it was worth it.
The people next door let it go on for two or three years and now the birds and a squirrel come back and try to get in through the roof tiles.
Good luck.....if all else fails, call a pest control company or your local Council Services (both charge a fair amount), who will probably use poison bait -- even on the farm I hated that action, but rats are a whole different kettle-of-fish.

I think I found my solution to getting rid of squirrels last year by crushing up a couple of 5mg of warfarin tablets that I used to take to thin my blood after an op, these I mixed with crushed pea-nuts which they loved. I must admit I felt very guilty for doing so but it appears to have worked. But if you go to Woolworths I have since found they sell a device which you plug-in and leave and it sends out a noise which only vermin can hear and they won`t make a home in yours.
Very interesting shylock73
I'd be very interested to hear how effective they are. We had 'bird scarer's' around our farm, and so did the other farms near us...............
About the only response I saw was a momentary lift-off, with a fast return, and after they got used to the noise, no response at all.

Every situation has a different interpretation when processed by a thinking human mind.
Wow! Now that's some heavy-duty-rationalisation-processing for you
We all talked like that in the 60's coffee bars, till the closed at 23h30. Talk about a zoo in an open-asylum
