No eating prior to spaying
10 Answers
My two eight month old female cats are being spayed this morning (I have to be at the vets in half an hour). They were not allowed to eat from 8pm last night or drink from 7am this morning. However, I have just found one of them chewing a houseplant - is the vet likely to have to cancel the operation now? What is the reason that they shouldn't eat? I will mention it when I get to the vets but wondered what the liklihood is of a wasted journey, as the vet wantd to do them together so if one can't be done, then the other won't be either! Thanks X

No doubt they'll both be lethargic & sleep a lot when they come home, but they'll soon be purring & eating again.
Milly's going in for the same thing in the next two weeks & I'm not looking forward to that either. She's currently curled up on a cushion, fast asleep at the mo'!
Take it easy & put your feet up before your new arrival comes along. Have you any names yet? -xx-

Hi Smudge and Bigmamma - sorry for the delay in replying, I rarely come online at the weekends.
Smudge - I wish they were lethargic and sleepy! As soon as I got them hope and opened the pet carriers they were diving around all over the place, you honestly wouldn't think that they had had an operation! They have been pretty good and have now (finally) stopped trying to remove the stitches themselves, and they are eating, playing and sleeping fine, so I'm pleased to say everything is back to normal :-)
I hope Milly's op is just as successful! X.
As for baby names we have Archie, Finlay (although we'd shorten it to Finn) and Theo as our top three, and for girls we have Isabella, Amelia and Evie. Although these tend to change on a weekly basis at the moment! I must admit my personal favourites are Finlay and Bella :-)

Hi Nat - that's okay, I had a busy weekend too, so wasn't on here either.
I'm so pleased to hear your two kittens were fine after their op's, bless 'em! It's amazing how quickly they recovered!
Milly's booked in for her op on Wed 30th Jan at 9:30am. I'll be so pleased to get it over & done with, although if your two are anything to go by, she'll soon be up to mischief again!
I love all the boys & girls names you've chosen for your baby. Our little granddaughter's name is Isabel (we call her Izzy too). Amelia is one of my fav's (my sis was Amy). I have a friend called Eve.
Let's know when the little one comes along - if you find the the time of course! Take care. -x-
