This weeks odd bird behaviour
2 Answers
Yesterday at the reserve. Four or five hundred wigeon on a flooded part of a field. Streaming out of the water into the grass in a solid river of ducks! Suddenly all turn round and run back into the water. This happened several times and was mighty puzzling til I noticed several magpies dive bombing an area of the grass.
There was a buzzard in the grass. When a load of wigeon were out of the water it was running at them, retiring when they all got back in the water and running at them again when a lot got out. Hilarious to watch!

it sounds absolutely amazing with all the ducks almost using decoy tactics to get out of trouble. What is even more incredible is the Buzzard's bravery (or stupidity!) ....or was he just having a bit of fun...? I'm trying to picture it all and just wished I could have been transported to that once-in-a-lifetime happening. Brilliant, just brilliant. Thank you!
