When I was little me and my sister used to catch tadpoles in the pond and take them home to watch them turn into frogs, don't remember it being very long but then it was about 15 years ago!
Hi -
There are hundreds of species of frogs and toads, and they all have their own lifestyles.
There are a few species which can take a long time to develop -- tadpoles perhaps overwintering. The "paradoxical frog" of South America grows to a tadpole larger than the frog, then changes directly into a near-adult. Presumably this takes a good while.
In the UK, common frog spawn is laid about March, and the first froglets emerge in June or so.
