Frogs eating Goldfish???

Hi. I've had a gargen pond for 2 years and for that time we've had frogs and goldfish living together quite happily. However, this morning I noticed that a frog was on top of one of my goldfish who's now dead at the bottom of the pond. The goldfish are about 4 inches long now, but I've never noticed this behaviour before. I've also noticed my other Goldfish hiding. Is this common?

It's nothing personal...don't flatter yourself. The advice is misleading and wrong....why don't you respond to my last question....should people remove frogs and toads from wildlife ponds with no fish in as you suggest.

No, wildlife ponds are what they say they are, wildlife including frogs/toads. I am talking about fishponds. I think 99.9% of AB users will understand this. Obviously you are the 0.1% who doesn't.

Where exactly are people going to put these frogs. I know people who have frogs in their garden who live 10 miles from the nearest natural pond or waterway. Oh hang on, we can't put them in natural ponds and streams because they'll kill the fish that live there.

I had a similar thing happen today. I found a goldfish at the bottom of the pond, with a frog on top. The frog's front legs were firmly embedded in the fish's gills. I managed to separate the frog, who happily swam away. I have had frogs visiting my pond for several years now, without problems, except the fish eat most of the frog spawn.

I agree with Hammerman, giving such advices like killing all toads and frogs in our ponds based on possible infections is totally irresponsible. I just bought 1 goldfish and 1 koi fish yesterday evening and they were happy and fearless in my pond when I put them there. However, this morning I don't see them, so either they were frightened by something or they were humped by the toad(s) as I learned from your discussions here. I have some small cactus around my pond to discourage the overpopulation of toads, especially the venenous one, as I want to replace my previous Frenchie, and I am afraid that the new puppy will sniff a venenous toad etc... So now I have probably only one toad/frog, not sure, will shoot a picture and try to figure out. Here in the Grove these toads and frogs have a lot of places to go other than my pond, without emptying my pond to exterminate whatever, especially when they are sitting in the bushes around it ! Thank you for the valuable info.
