The noun "panthera" has 1 sense in WordNet.

1. Panthera, genus Panthera -- (lions; leopards; snow leopards; jaguars; tigers; cheetahs; saber-toothed tigers)

Not sabre-tooths or cheetah. These were or are each in separate parts of the cat group, each quite different from the "big" or roaring cats.
I stand corrected New Forester. The genus Panthera includes:

Panthera leo - Lion
Panthera tigris - Tiger
Panthera pardus - Leopard
Panthera onca - Jaguar

Only these four cat species have the anatomical changes enabling them to roar, due to a modification to the shape of their hyoid bone.

Snow leopard or ounce is sometimes put in Panthera too -- either Panthera uncia or Uncia uncia -- and it's regarded as a "big" cat. Quite a few extinct Panthera too -- cave lions etc.
