That really depends on where your first one became infected.
What I am trying to say is if it was a baby puppy and died soon after you got it, then it probably had it before you got it. However if it was a bit older and caught it whilst living with you, then you need to make sure everywhere the puppy went is well disinfected as parvo can remain for a long time.

I would check with your vet, although I would have thought with a good clean up you should be ok (not saying your place is dirty if you see what I mean). Hope you have more luck this time.

the pup was 7 weeks old & we are convinced he came to us with the virus. i have bought cleaning fluid & done the whole house twice (once just after we lost the pup, then in february) thanks for your answer x
I am sure you are right, it is unlikely that a seven week old pup would have gone anywhere to come into contact with the disease, its very sad, but hopefully your new baby will live a long and happy life.
Lankeela's giving you sound advice, I suggest you heed it, dont be in a hurry to take a pup into a house which has recently had a case of parvo in it.
I hope you are getting your new puppy from a reputable breeder and not from somewhere like Dogsrus. No reputable breeder would let their puppies go to a place like this. I have heard of so many cases of sick puppies being obtained from places like this.
Persianlady how right you are, I had the same experience
in the 60s with a German Shepherd pup I bought from a Kennels in Mirfield, West Yorkshire.
I was one of the lucky ones, I did get my money back but it did'nt ease the pain of seeing that little dog die.

A big thanks to Lankeela, Billy Reid & Persian Lady. Just to confirm - the parvo pup was pup to sleep 6 months ago, (last Oct) it was heartbreaking to see him suffer so much & the vet we took him to was brutally honest when she diagnosed him. We bought him from a farm in Thornton, Bradford ! Please don't say anything we know how wrong that was. We didn't see the parents and all the pups were kept outside in a barn. The pup didn't have papers & the owner said the pups had been wormed and given the 1st jab. As a precaution for my own peace of mind i gave the pup a worming tablet & less than 2 hrs later he was vomiting and excreting worms like you wouldn't believe. We think she was lying about both ! We did get our money back but as Billy said, it doesn't ease the pain. We learned a harsh lesson and have found a breeder who has given us the confidence to bring home a new pup. They have done the 1st jab & are prepared to keep him with them til he's had all the jabs. As i said yesterday, i've bought disinfetctant - "Formula H,"it smells awful but it does the job, and i have cleaned the house thoroughly twice, as well as outside. All your answers have confirmed what i'd already been thinking. Thanks again for your input. x
