My cat has totally changed personality
10 Answers
We moved him here 10 days ago, he had lived at the old house all his life but had never wanted to be an indoor cat, he lived outside, spending most of the day asleep on the top of the shed. He was nor friendly, would run off usually if you tried to pick him up. he occasionally allowed me to stroke him a few times but then he would try to bite me. I managed to get him into a cat carrier, (he is almost the same size as my dog!) He has never used a litter tray in 10 years, suddenly he is a natural! He has never ever stayed in the house more than 3 minutes in his life, now he has been in the house over a week and is relaxed, friendly, purring none stop! I let him out yesterday, he went out of the garden but came back after an hour, then all day he was in and out, but appeared back each time I called him. Today he is not bothered about going out, he stepped out side, sat down, looked round and turned back to come in! He is so friendly and placid and his coat is shining! he is eating slightly less, but still eating a tin a day!!! He is suddenly an affectionate, domesticated friendly cat!! He sleeps on top of my wardrobe all night and never stirs, Is it possible he disliked the other house??? lol

Give him time to settle in, he could be scared and doesnt know his new surroundings yet, or he might have encoutered a hostile cat on his first scout out and decided to stay put, or he could be thinking you might move again and he wouldnt be able to find you. I am sure he will settle into his old routine in time. good luck, he sounds a lovely cat.
I was reading this out to my sister in law the cat woman and she agreed with Hellyon: Cats do have a highly developed sense and it could well be that there was something about your old house that the cat just didn't like, it's probably a big sigh of relief for her/him to get away from the other house and is quite comfortable with the new one!!
dot, do I remember you asking the question whether to leave him when you moved because he was so aloof? I bet you're glad you didn't now. He could go back to his old ways to a certain extent as he gets used to his new surroundings (10 days is very early to let a cat out in a new house, but then again, if he wasn't a home-boy at the old house anyway ...), but it looks like he has realised how nice it is to be pampered and loved. I'm so happy for you - and him. You got a photo of him that you can upload?
