whats this bird

Hi, we are on holiday at the moment, miles away from the sea but there are 17 lakes, there is this bird ( aquatic) that is on the lake infront of me that is basicaly brown with red and has a white throat with tuffty feathers coming out the back of its head, this bird is a diver i personaly thought it was a sea bird can anyone tell me what it is please.

It's either a female Goosander as yogasun has said, or a female Red Breasted Merganser.

Both similar colouring in females. The only way to be sure is if you had a close up look and could see the definite white eye stripe of the Merganser.
