I've got to go to work soon but just to say what fantastic posts and so heartening to read that there are really appreciative nature lovers out there who think the way that our family do. I've just put out loads of black sunflower seeds (Mr. yogasun is in Scotland on a birdwatching holiday so I have to do the 'birding' chores!)
and the sun is shining tho' there is a fresher feel to the air.
Will read the posts properly later but just quickly bemsmum - brilliant sounding garden and Jules, we'd have been doing the same with the plank of wood !
Hi Ray, alfieblue, Cetti and KRUSTY, burnhal and tiger and anyone else. Let's keep it going, the posts are a joy to read.

Hello again to all lovely nature (birdy) people. These posts have been as yogasun rightly says - heartwarming and many thanks to Ray and LL for the idea.
My post was almost shorthand. The reason being I was certain this lovely thread would be ruined by a certain troll who inhibits this particuar section - but happily, I was wrong. What we need now is a proper sub section - Nature Notes, Blog , or whatever. Something that's permanent. Now wouldn't that be something. It might even go back to how it used to be a few years ago....

Hi Cetti
Back from work now and home til 6pm. Yes I agree.
Out of interest is your name from Cetti's Warbler? My younger son is a trainee bird ringer and has rung (apparently it's 'ringed' but it sounds funny to me) a Cetti's amongst many others.
The birdsong in my garden is amazing at this time of year.
I agree, if anyone tries to spoil the thread best to just ignore.

Yes, yogasun, Cetti's Warbler, that's me. Also a very obsessive birdy - ite, whose every password and screen name just happens to be...a bird.
I think that apologising to ants when we step on them and talking to birds is quite normal, isn't it ? Just come in from mowing the lawn, as it was making life difficult for a singing Dunnock. Poor little thing looked as though he was going to burst, getting louder and louder, trying to get himself heard over the noise of the machine. Said, All yours, now mate, and left him to it!

Oh Cetti, I do that when I accidently step on a little insect - apologise to it that is!! Well it's so nice that there are others as loopy as I.
I can't keep indoors at the moment, I have to keep going outside and walking around the garden to see what I can see. Everyday new things are shooting up or new flowers have come into bloom. Four beautiful Nelly Moser clematis flowers have opened up today and the slugs have totally demolished my favourite clematis by chewing off all the new shoots and leaving me with a stem!! I won't put slug bait down, so have to take the consequences.

That's like my son, all his passwords, etc are bird names.
I expect you use birdforum.net a lot don't you? My son is always updating on our local blog site.
Yes I hate accidentally killing anything. When I was younger I'd always kill wasps, flies, etc. but I don't even do that now, just try to get them away somehow.
Well, must away, we'll see what the next few days bring.
Mr yogasun is going to the Outer Hebrides in the next few days (he's on a birwatching holiday in Scotland) and my son says there is a Snowy Owl there, hope it hangs around for him!

Thanks for the info about the Snowy Owl, yogasun.
I have a dear friend whose greatest wish in life was to see one of these stunning birds. He will be so thrilled, although sadly his travelling birdy days have now finished. Please let us know if Mr yogasun is lucky.
Do post any little tidbits of wildy things, alfieblue, as like you said it's a joy to read something nice, clean and very beautiful.

Hi all, I am amazed and in awe at the knowledge you all have, I know very little about birds, but just love what I see, today has been so clear, the sky is like an ocean without waves, in the corner of our garden stands an acer the sunlight cathing the leaves in a soft breeze, first red, then auburn turning to purple and maroon as the leaves catch the light at different angles,, dark black, shiny black coal black crow sits on the telegraph pole waiting for the grains that fall from the bird feeder in the bush at the side, buzzard sawing high flating without effort, looking for and easy snack, not a great hunter, not a great flyer but the way he floats he thinks he is the best and he looks it, a sparrow hawk was hovering earlier, a beautiful bird the tipped his wings one way then the other and suddenly dropped like a stone, where did he go? never saw him again, hope he comes back again soon, the nests of the house martins are now finished in one part it looks like a newly built housing estate, but all terraced houses, two of the openings are so close they will be able to chat to each as if over the garden wall with a neighbour, the lambs are still, not moving, too hot for them in the thick wooly coats they wear, all else is quiet, as far as I know, if only I knew what was going on without my knowledge.
Have a lovely evening all, and take care, Ray
