I have two cats and have posted on here with tales about them and I will repeat one of my favourites about my mum's cat and dog, (who are both no longer with us).
The dog Jamie, a golden retriever was getting on a bit, when Benji the cat joined the family. Benji used to tease Jamie unmercifully, but Jamie good naturedly put up with it. Most of the time Jamie ignored Benji and that possibly wound him up a bit.
One day, Jamie was in the front garden wandering about enjoying the sunshine and Benji decided it was about time he gave him a surprise.
Benji watched Jamie carefully for a bit from a distance, eyeing him up, thn he dashed up to the dog, leapt up, whacked both his paws round each side of Jamie's head and then he tore away away again! Poor Jamie was looking about wondering what had hit him and I was laughing so hard, I could not get the words out to tell Benji off!
Being a cat, Benji would not have paid any attention to me anyway! I wished I had a video camera on me as it was a real You've Been Framed moment!
Thanks for reading! Both my cats are asleep in their cat beds in the lounge at the moment, recovering from a hard days work sleeping and laying in the garden!
Cheers Sue

Have just read the post about Lucy - must be something in the name! I had one called Lucy and she was a total madam - really regal. I always remember one day when she was asleep on the television and she rolled over and fell off. My husband laughed at her and she strolled over and bit him. Her revenge was complete after she'd puked in his slippers.
Oh Buenchico, bless! Your post made me chuckle! They DO know how to get their back up eh! lol
I had a cat when living in France with mum, but then I was away at Uni most of the time. I came back home from Scotland on my birthday, only for me to ask where my Lily was, obviously! Mum had to tell me she had passed away, she was poisoned by someone and the vet couldn't do anything. Worst birthday ever! :O(
Anyway, I always swore I wouldn't have another cat because none could come close to my Lily, but I still missed the company...As any cat lover would understand!
So, I got a new flat in Belfast, and desperately wanted a cat. I thought of getting an older one, who'd be happy to stay indoors, as I live in a rented flat, near a busy road. Unfortunately, no refuge would let me adopt, as they didn't approve of rented places, and city center locations. I then read an ad on an online forum, and went for it. I got my wee Jess when she was 9 weeks.
I have never looked back, and when I had to go away for the week end and leave her in the care of my best friend, I didn't have any respite, I was so worried!!! lol
I came back yesterday, and whilst she made a fuss of my best friend at first, she soon came back to me, and will not now let me go ANYWHERE unsupervised! lol I can't even go to the toilets by myself! Bless, poor wee thing! :O)
You gotta love them eh! xxx

I can just imagine that Bensmum - it's dangerous to laugh at a cat!
Sometimes you just can't help it though. One of our present cats, Tigger, is so laid back and unflappable, but one day he caught his back leg in a telephone lead in the hall. The phone crashed onto the quarry tile floor behind him, at which point he took off like a rocket, ripping the lead out of the socket as he headed for the kitchen.
Of course, the faster he went, the more noise the phone made as he tried to escape it, hurtling across the quarry-tiled kitchen. It all happened so fast, and we were laughing so much, we could only watch as he entered the utility room, heading for the catflap at incredible speed.
If there's a world record for exiting a catflap I reckon Tigger could claim it - he virtually flew through. Fortunately at that point the lead had loosened, as he zoomed across the lawn while the phone jammed in the flap.

Hi everyone, I have enjoyed reading all the stories. Just want to tell you about my cat Fluffy a female tortoi. I was
divorced with two children and when their father made his
infrequent visits to see them, on one occasion he knocked
fluffy off the chair so he could sit down. She promptly
walked over to him and bit him on the leg. My how the
children laughed, and he never attempted pushing her off
again. My children who are now grown with children of their
own often recall this incident, with much frivolity.

We had a little rescue cat, grey and white with only one eye whom we called Thomas. He proved his worth after a week - the garden was overrun with rabbits, and he turned out to be a great hunter despite his handicap. He used to follow us over the fields if we went for a walk, and would 'talk' to us to remind us he was there. When he was close it was his normal miaow, but the further ahead we were, the more mournful it got, until he howled and we had to wait for him to catch up. When I had my first baby, Thomas rather suffered from lack of attention, but he was a good natured cat and was so soft with the children, he never scratched or bit them. They would pick him up and maul him about, but he would not run away when they let go. We have a lovely picture of my eldest holding Thomas under the arms. Sadly his sight was his undoing - he was hit by a car on the road, we did not find him for a few days. We buried him in the garden and shed some tears. We have not replaced him, despite the return of the rabbits.
What a lovely thread madboutcats! I have skimmed through and will come back later to have a proper read. What with this thread and the lovely nature threads, I am really enjoying AB recently (funny how so many of the same people are on both threads!!! - it must tell us something).
See you later. After having loads of cats over the years I will rack my brains to think back to a funny story. Cats are such lovely characters with so much personality and all so very different.

thank you to everyone who has posted lovely stories of your beloved mogs, maybe one day i will write a book 4candles,
its brought back some very fond memories of the cats i have owned, known and loved.Ive been visiting sam... oops sorry i mean my mum though sam thinks i just come to see him as he seems to appear from no where when i arrive in. as usual he supervised me in the garden, helping cut back bushes by sitting watching though one day he might loose the tip of his tail.
keep the stories coming, even if we have to start a new thread, hey buenchico i hope you find cat shaped happiness soon, life is dull without that furry bundle of love.

When I was a mere lad many moons ago we had a bruiser of a cat, he was the size of a black panther and ruled our street with a rod of iron, even dogs were afraid of him, he once blinded a dog in one eye.
One Sunday afternoon we had an irate neighbour banging on our door demanding his Sunday lunch back. Apparently this gentleman's wife had taken a joint of beef out of the oven and put it on her worktop to rest before carving, our moggy spotted his chance and jumped up on the worktop and pinched it.
He came back about four hours later with his tummy looking like a beer barrel that had been pusheed over, and I'll swear he was grinning at us
That's why I love cats

Hi Mad,
My cat Snoopy was put to sleep on my birthday in 2000. He was 15 and had kidney failure. I'd had him since he was a kitten and I still miss him now.
In 2001 I went to Battersea Dogs & Cats home looking for 2 kittens. They interviewed me and said that I wouldn't be able to have kittens as I live on my own and work full-time. I went for a walk around the cat area and fell in love with Tigger who was in th same cage as Blue. When I got them home the were petrified the poor little things. Tigger hid in the spare bedroom for a whole week until she decided she liked me and Blue started being friends within a couple of days.
Tigger still gets scared of visitors but Blue is very friendly and is always eager for a stroke by any Tom, Dick or Harry Lol. They are mischievous little things but I love them both so very much and I don't know what I'd do without them.
Can I also take this opportunity to urge anyone thinking about getting a cat to think about going to a rescue centre instead of a pet shop or breeder.
Tigger x

I have only ever had cats from rescue centres - oh, except for one who was partially sighted and came from a friend. All the litter were partially sighted.
I have so many wonderful memories of all of them - all completely different, but all lovely in their own way!
Much more entertaining than TV or computer games too and very therapeutic (well for most of the the time - sometimes they are little devils in disguise).
I remember one in particular who used to stuff dead, headless baby rabbits in the back of our washing machine (where the pipes come out). He would catch several, eat what he could and store the others for future use! Not very pleasant!!!
I have always had dogs as well and they have all got on together. I love them equally and they have all brought so much pleasure into our lives. What a sad life it would be without our furry friends.

hello tigger, thanks for your lovely post, cupar is the same very nervous around strangers, when i first moved in with my partner he warned me not to be upset if cupar constantly ran away from me,...we hit it off straight away and im now first in cupars life. margo is just a strumpet and will roll on her back for a belly rub from anyone who would spare her the time, shes a daddys girl and its very rare she'll sit on me. cuper and mags have the odd rough and tumble. when i got home today cupar was wanting a tussle with mags and was walking round squeaking for her or a call to arms as i call it, she was out but as soon as he heard her come thru the cat flap he was there and i just happened to catch him leaping straight into the air and chase her down the corridor, a favourite past time at three in the morning. loftylottie i saw your post on the wildlife thread lol at my speaking cats, it made me lol too as i was leaning out of window trying to spot the culprits, it most definately sounded like henry was being muttered.
Tigger loves to roll on her back with her paws doing the "I'm a little tea pot spout" routine. Blue then comes along, lies down next to her and they start to tussle. I have to break them up otherwise they would bite chunks out of each other. They also have a male visitor who comes in and eats their dinner and presumably diddles them as well! Lol. Only trouble is he sprays everywhere and it stinks. I've tried so many different types of cat flap but either the collar keys go missing or the magnet gets twisted and they can't get in. They don't come cheap either! Lol
I can just imagine tigger's little floozies opening the cat flap for their gentleman friend!!
madaboutcats - mine love to lay in wait for each other and leap in the air before playing chase. Daisie often comes hurtling through the catflap, skids over the kitchen floor before turning round and charging back out - it's a wonder I still have a catflap. Flossie was running around this morning - bless her at 18 she still thinks she's a kitten.
It's lovely to hear other people's cat stories

Loving this thread! It's made me chuckle out loud that I have had to recite some stories to my hubby who has asked what I am laughing at! :-D
I have three moggies; 6 year old Diego, a tabby who is part maine co0n and weighs 18lb, Raffy who is black and white and has the markings of a Fresian cow and Jez who is black with white socks and chest and a little spot of white on her lip that makes her look like she has a dollop of cream there! Raffy and Jez are sisters and one year old.
Diego was born an old man, he is grumpy and not very sociable. Once in a blue moon he will come for a cuddle and it's lovely because he does it so rarely. I think the worst thing he has done is bring home a fox's tail. I woke up one morning to find a fox tail in my living room and was scratching my head as to how it got there - I lived on my own in a one bed flat until I saw him proudly draggig it roung the living room. Each time I got rid of the stinking thing he would drag it back through the cat flap and up the stairs, much perplexed that I had thrown it out in the first place.
Raffy and Jez are a tag team, Jez holds the bin open while Raff grabs what she can and she usually finds something; the cat eats anything I have caught her eating crisps, garlic and herbs potatoes, sweetcorn, cheese.... you name it she eats it. She also has a nasty habit of bringing home dead things, not fresh things that she has caught but decaying birds that don't have any heads or feathers. Jez is just stoooooopid, I am sure she is a bit slow. She follows me everywhere - bath, toilet, you name it and last night I woke up to find her sat on my chest with her nose against mine and she purrs like a motorbike while she is doing it, she's just happy following people around!
