Well, what a week!

Hi again, everyone. I thought I'd start another post, to let you all know what's been happening. This morning, my lovely old cat Cassie (she's almost 11) came crawling through the cat flap, bleeding profusely from her back & front right legs. I took her straight to the vet and she said she'd been very badly beaten up by another cat. I suspect it was the same one who ultimately caused Monty's death. Poor Cass has been at the vet's all day, but is now home, still battered and sore. I saw the damn cat again this afternonn, when it tried to get in through the cat flap to Cleo, who was trying to get out at the time. I'm not letting the girls out at all until I can trap that cat and get rid of it. The other thing is that the vet has a little black kitten in, who has had to have a leg amputated after a run in with a car. She's only about 5 or 6 weeks old and my vet is looking for a home for her. I've (foolishly?) said I'll have her, but not till tomorrow evening, so Cass can have some time to settle back home after today. Oh, boy, why me, Lord????

Many years ago my friend's cat was hit by a train & somehow managed to crawl up the railway bank to home . His back leg was amputated & he lived a very long & happy life . Think it was about 15 years later when he finally went . I'm sure she'll be fine . Good luck

Poor Cass - hope she's on the mend. I agree with some of the others - is there any way you can trap the thug and get him "altered". Perhaps Cats Protection or someone would do it. He is only doing what comes naturally I suppose but it is worrying when you have other cats.
The kitten sounds lovely. I occasionally look after a 3 legged cat who had her leg removed at a young age and she is now 20! Yours will have a lovely home with you and I'm sure she'll suit whichever name you give her.

Hi, everyone. You'll be glad to hear that Cassie seems to be on the mend. She's eating well and is starting to put some weight on the back leg, which was the worst injured. She's still on antibiotics for a few days yet (ever tried giving a cat a pill?? Monty was very good, but the older girls aren't so easy!! I had to cook some fish for her tonight & disguise them in that - she ate them, thankfully.)
I've got a cat trap for the villain and I've already set it. I know what my son would like to do with the ruddy thing when we catch it, but I'll probably take it to the cat sanctuary in Swansea 50 miles away, so hopefully it'll never find its way back here!
Little Pandora has come home with us now (that was K. Jnr's choice - I think it's lovely! Quite appropriate, too, I think, as when I open the little cage she's in at the moment, all hell is let loose!) She's quite a little madam - she's the one who's been hissing at the others. She's just got out and has got herself into my wine rack in the kitchen! She seems to be managing quite well, despite missing a front leg. I just wonder how she's going to use the litter tray, though? I've borrowed a little cage from the vet, so she can stay in there (she's got a wee box she can sleep in) until she and the others get used to each other, but, like I said, she's just got out! I'd better go & find her, before she gets into mischief...

aw bless her! Glad cas is on the mend, what a perfect name, and just like the story when you opened the box out came trouble! she should cope ok with the litter tray, cats are pretty adaptable critters. Enjoy and cherish her as much you did monty.

Post some pictures if you can Kleiber - Pandora is a lovely name and she sounds adorable. I had the chance of having another kitten this week but I worry about young cats getting out on to the road here. My old ladies have more sense I hope!

I'd love to be able to show you all little Pandora, and to post a picture of my dear little Monty too - he was such a lovely wee thing. I had a dream the other night, that Monty came back (if only!!) and there was a little black cat with him. How strange is that?

Oh, and thank you all for your lovely replies and your support. I know Pandora will never replace Monty, but she's just a wee scrap who needs a chance of a happy life. She's still in a bit of a state - her neck & forequarters are shaved, where she's had her operation and her poor little stumpy tail has a stitch in the end of it (she had to have most of her tail amputated as well). She's back in her cage now, grumbling - I think she's hungry, so I'm going to feed her before bed time. Back soon....K

morning kleiber how are cassie and pandora i so admire you taking on pandora you are obviously younger then me 15 years ago we had 12 cats all that we aquired from different backgrounds but now i feel i just cant have any more animals as these go i feel i cant cope with the pain of losing them i said this to my friend when simon went and she said dont be so daft if my animals could give me a reference i would have them queueing down the drive for a home my cassie (beagle) will miss smirnoff as they used to curl up together to have a sleep she could not make out yesterday why i was burying him she knew he was dead as i let her have a good sniff and say goodbuy before i did it but as i was trying to fill in she kept getting in the hole.

My next door neighbour found a little cat sitting on her doorstep once , it had a belly full of kittens. 6 in fact, anyway they found a home for all the kittens and kept the mum, they'd had her for 18 years when she broke one of her front legs, the vet said he couldn't repair the leg so it was amputated, she survived the op and after a couple of days she was running up and down stairs. Little Whitesocks ( thats what they called her ) lived for another 3 years and just died in her sleep one day.

Hi, I am so sorry t hear about Cassie and hope she will be on the mend and back to normal soon. As for the little black kitten, it is obvious you should have her. It is too much of a coincidence and I think it was meant to be, in fact I think the word Kismet describes it perfectly and that could be the name for your new kitten. Kismet, shortened to Kizzy if necessary. Please keep us informed of how things are and I hope the thug cat can be caught and dealt with. thinking of you

Elaine, I really like the name Kismet - I might change it to that. She's a terror - we "lost" her twice this morning. She woke me in the middle of the night, yelling and so I got her out of her cage and let her have the run of my bedroom. She and Cassie (who's improving by the minute, thankfully!) seem to get on well - I guess they understand each other, both being a bit poorly and sore just now. When we lost her the second time, I was really panicking, as she's so tiny and I'd just put a load of washing in the machine (you can guess what I was thinking), but I finally found her, curled up in my son's old crash helmet, in the wardrobe in the spare room. I didn't think she'd be able to get out of my bedroom because there's a step about 6 inches high that leads off to the bathroom, but she managed it. She's obviously adapting well to the loss of her leg. She's done a lot of purring and is getting used to her new home.

Hi Kleiber, I am so glad you like the name Kismet, I like Pandora (not being the brightest button in the box at the moment, and did not see you had chosen that name before I suggested Kismet,) Anyway I hope the girls are feeling better today and that this coming week will be calmer for you. I will be thinking of you. (My hubby has even taken to asking me how things are with you and he is not usually interested in anything like this - I think Monty reminded him so much of our Vincey.)
I have tried to load a pic of my little boys so I hope it works.

Oh, the little ginger one's just like Monty!! I've decided to call Pandora "Misha" now. I couldn't get on with "Pandy" as a shortened version.. Although I like "Kizzy", my son wasn't too keen (his friend has a sister called Kizzy and he doesn't like her!!). So, Misha it is.
