Is it safe to give my cat semi skimmed milk? I read somewhere that it damages their kidneys. He has a little saucerful around four times a week and loves it.
No cows milk is good for cats. I gave mine some Whiskas milk for a treat and she just turned her nose up. She prefers her water (which she insists on drinking out of a glass and won't even consider it in a at bowl.)
Can I hijack your thread smurfchops just to ask Whiskey how Oscar is doing?
you should be aware that cold milk can be difficult to drink, so bring it down to room temp for him and only give him a little bit. also - some cats get the trots from drinking milk, so at some point he could become intolerant of it and you may have to stop giving it. but, until then if he enjoys it - why not?!
Oscar is brilliant, thank you. I was over there last night and he was on my lap, purring straight away. Then he was asleep in my bag for a couple of hours before tearing around like a maniac. :) I'm not sure if you saw my latest post about him, though: http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/Animals-and-Nat ure/Question593533.html :(
Thanks Whiskey - I had missed that post completely. I'm glad a lovely new home has been found for him. He will hopefully soon settle down again - poor little fella, all these moves. I would have been sorely tempted if I knew he was still wanting a home!
I am well thank you. Just been on a lovely country walk with the two dogs along the banks of the river. xx
NO dont give your cat milk that we drink, they cant cope with the amount of lactose in our milk. It will give your cat an upset tummy and the runs. I give my kitten whiskas milk it is specially for cats and has the right vitamins and nutrients they need. You can buy it in any supermarket or pet shop.
Sherrie and Lottie, my pleasure. I have now bought my cat some Felix mik and Whiskas milk and given him a little, he seems to like it, so I wont give him any more 'human' stuff. Thanks all !!
Ahh! That is why my cat was sick a few days ago and looked very sorry for herself. She had just enjoyed a big saucerful of milk that I lovingly put down for her. I did not realise that cows milk is bad for cats and must admit, thought that the whiskas milk etc was just a ploy to make us pay more.
I will stop giving her milk from now on. Saying that my other cat Ozzie has been enjoying the odd plateful of evap milk for years and has not seemed to come to any harm from it, perhaps she just has an iron clad stomach where evap milk is concerned!
