Poor cefa, Help!!
17 Answers
Hi all,
Some of you may remember a thread I posted a while back about my youngest cat Cefa, who always has an upset stomach!
We have since been back to the vets, who again said chicken and rice, which we know doesnt work!
She has taken to going to the loo on the downstairs toilet floor, which is no fun! Have tried so many things to clean it, but she still only goes there! Today I got in, and she had been there again, only she seemed to have walked around doing it, and half the floor was covered.
I obviously want to get this sorted because I love my baby girl to pieces and dont want her to be sick, and before my fella (as much as he loves the cats) says enough is enough!
A few questions!
Can I go to the vets and say i want tests done?
Will insurance cover this?
How can I stop her going on the bathroom floor?
What can I do!?
Any advise on anything would be very very helpful!
At the minute we have resorted to her being outside most of the time apart from dinner time which is cruel and I hate, but otherwise I am continously cleaning up the bathroom floor! Just want my little girl happy and healthy again!
Ta!

Make sure that whatever you are cleaning the floor with doesn't contain ammonia (this IS in bleach). Cats urine has amonia in it, so if the they smell it on the floor, they will think it is to go there.
I have 2 male cats one of which is weeing all over the place at the momentr but thanx to ABers he is booked in for the chop as apparently this may help to stop it. So to repeat some advice i was given, is she hasn't been done, then give it a go. It's no guarantee but fingers crossed it will work for me.
If you don't clean with bleach and she has been done, then sorry i can't help any further.

Hi wiggal,
You can ask your vet for further tests. Explain that you've been in with the same problem before, and that the diet change didn't work. (I trust that the change was made gradually and everything else including treats was excluded).
It's depends on the insurance provider, your excess, whether or not certain conditions will be covered more than once, and how much is permitted to be claimed per condition! Also if your cat was like this before you got her insured it likely won't be covered.
The only way I can think to stop her going on the floor of the downstairs loo is to keep the door shut!
I missed your previous thread on Cefa, could you link me to it and I'll go take a look?

Hi both, thanks for yur quick replies!
Cefa has been done, and its not weeing that she has been doing! So as you can imagine, its pretty bad to clear up and not a nice task everyday. We have tried looking her out the bathroom, and she goes by the front door or by the bath upstairs! (She does have a litter tray!)
We have tried various foods, delicate diets all sorts!
To be honest, dont know why I mentioned the insurance, as she is not insured at the minute due to problems we had with the policy, so have been looking for a new one. My fella earns good money, so paying for tests wont be a problem (within reason!).
I will have a look for the previous post, it was basically about feeding the cats chicken & rice being difficult as we have 7 cats that all eat together and have dry food down all day, and if delicate types of food would be an ok diet for them daily.
But the delicate foods havent worked at all! She has had enough bad luck as it is, as she was going to have to have her leg amputated at 3 weeks old due to her mum abandoning her and her brothers and sisters when she was a newborn. The litter got tangled in the after birth and umbilical chords, and 2 had it wrapped round there legs.

It is loose stools, all the time. But today it was liquid stools.
Our other cats are fine, no eating problems at all. Which is why we are thinking it is likely to be an intollerance to something.
She has had it for a long while now, which is why we have gone through many different foods and tried different diets for her.
She is only a little cat anyway, she was born 6th March '07, yet is still only 2/3s the size of other cats. But not really worried about her overall size as her aunty Spinks is a ver small cat aswell. But she is very skinny so she s obviously not getting any nutrients or substance from anything.

She is as gorgeous as ever in herself, very cuddley and friendly, follows me everywhere, sits outside the bath when im having a shower, and even sits in the end of the bath when I'm washing my hair!
I love all my cats, but Alan (my partner) has always said I have favouritism towards her, but she is such a mumies girl!
Luckily, I dont have a problem cleaning up after animals, as unpleasant as it is! Cleaning up after cefa, or if one of the cats is sick doesnt bother me. But Alan has big problems with it, and can not even be near a cat if it has furr balls!
Will try and get a picture of my baby girl for you guys!

I have only ever owned one cat myself, although my parents have rescued a few over the years, but from a dog point of view, I have found that rice has given several of my dogs diahroah, and also white fish. My friend advocates pudding rice as opposed to long grain rice, made with water, and adding some arrowroot, which may be worth a try, or you could try omitting the rice altogether and just feeding chicken. Have you tried acidopholus (not sure of spelling!), you can obtain them from any chemist and they are safe to give even day old kittens/puppies.
I am surprised your vet hasnt suggested tests before now, but I dont know how many visits you have had. I would definitely go back and see what they suggest, I would have thought blood tests would be the first thing they would look at.
Good luck.

If your vet is not being helpful, is there another vet in the area who you could try?
My little boy has just got over a vomiting and diarhoea. He had an injection and just plain boiled chicken for 3 days. If your little girl has been going on for this long then I would have another check done. hope she will be ok soon
