New Puppy

Hi guyd sng gsld me and my girlfriend are getting a new puppy soon. We both work shift work and it will be left up to 10 hours a day 6 days per week. Would it be a good idea getting someone to come round and check on it? We are so excited.

Not coming onto this part of the site very often, quizzes and puzzles is my bit, I am not up on the humour.
I take it the post re the new puppy is a joke.
If not the best advice is do not get a puppy.
I am surprised you can find a 'breeder' willing to let you have one when it will be left alone for all this time.
If you do go ahead and get it you will definately have to get someone to look in on it at least three to four times a day.

Erm I am confused by these answers. It is a real dog. We have already put a �100 deposit down on it and we pick him up 22nd. Just wanted to prepare for his arrival thats all.

Hi, I am also a little confused here as the responses from LoftyLottie, alfieblue and lankeela make it sound like the question is not serious but I am going to give my answer to the enquiry. If you are getting a puppy and intend to leave it for 10 hours a day 6 days a week then I would strongly advise against it. Puppies need love, attention time and training as well as regular small feeds and fresh water several times a day. When are you going to walk it? I think this puppy will be neglected and become a problem. I am in agreement with britta and In a Pickle, the breeder is being irresponsible to sell to you (Unless you have not told them the puppy will be alone) and you obviously do not have enough experience of animals to take care of one properly. Please think again and get a goldfish.

It wont be a problem as we have got a cage for it. The cage can be its own little home somewhere it feels safe. We cant wait to get it and we will love it so much its untrue. regarding the food as I said I can get a neighbour to come make sure its alright and drop some food in its bowl. We were thinking paying someone to walk it but havent decided yet. Will see how happy it is first. aw how we cant wait. We have called it Brutus.

I am almost speechless. To put a puppy in a cage for this length of time will be cruel and would almost certainly be a case for the RSPCA to investigate.
This would be gross neglect and could amount to abandonment.
If you do not want your puppy destroying your home why not get a kennel with a large run.
I cannot believe you want to get a puppy and leave it alone for that length of time. 10 hours at work, 8 hours asleep. time getting ready for work and when you get home. How much time do you intend to spend with this poor dog. I make it about 2 hours.

Leaving a wee puppy for such long hours!!!! Its cruel and why get a puppy ????? You are clearly not responsible!!!!

I can only assume that you are looking for a part-time pet? Get yourself a goldfish - then again you'd soon be asking if it would be okay to leave it without food for a fortnight while you went on holiday! As everyone else has suggested - don't get a pet until you are ready to devote your attention to it. I assume that you will go ahead and get the dog, ignoring everyones advice, and pretty soon it'll be found deserted and tied to a lampost somewhere. Just don't do it!!

Hi peewee I came on here and asked the same question and they all lit their torches and erected the big wooden crosses. My puppy turned out fine. But however 10 hours seems an aweful long time

Lol grav! 10 hours is a lifetime for a pup - this is a wind up - just to get us 'lighting our torches and erecting the wooden crosses' as you say!!!

Thats right grav, and look how many times you have had to ask for advice since getting your puppy. Dog owners should have to pass a test before being allowed to get one. Breeders should not be allowed to sell puppies unless they have seen evidence that the buyer has passed the test on the basic requirements of a dog.
