Our family dog has been in "heat"and has been bleeding for about 13 days. I called the vet and she said that it could last up to 21 days, is this normal? She also has been very smelly. We are trying to keep her clean but she just has a "smell" to her.........the only way to describe this is a sickly smell. Any suggestions on what this could be?

I am going to honestly say that I am certainly not an expert. However, I think that yes, it is normal for the dog to bleed this long, especially if the vet says so. I think that it really depends on the type of dog though. About the smell... I don't really have any suggestions as to how to prevent it, but I wouldn't worry too much. I guess just try to wait it out! :D
I would definitely get her to the vet to be checked. It could be pyometra which is an infection of the womb, and can be fatal if left untreated.
