my 5 year old male rottweiler Toby was neutered four weeks ago, since then he has been moulting excessively. He seems happy and healthy and doesnt have bald patches but there is thick black hair all over the place. Even though I am vacuuming twice a day, its like living in a furry forest !

weather change is making him grow his winter coat.
My friends Rottie bitch is doing the same, I don't think its anything to do with being neutered!

thank you both, i guess its probably the weather, but i seem to recall that he moulted more in the spring to shed a winter coat.
I would have thought that maybe he would be hanging on to as much hair as he could in preperation for winter, not that he needs it.....living in a central heated house !
I have a rough collie that had an op a couple of months ago for pyrometra. This past week she has lost all her undercoat and top coat now very thin. Also is scratching like mad. She has pink skin and you an see big red marks on it, The vet says he think it is her op that may have caused it. Is you dog smelly? as in smelly skin.? if so he may have a fungus infection on his skin.
Know what you mean about vacuming mine is the same only it is white, black and tan,!!
I have a 6 year old Rottweiler and he is moulting alot too! But as far as I can remember he always has around this time of year. I wonder, does your Rotty have bald elbows?
lilacben, if you had your bitch speyed due to a pyo, her body will think she has had a litter and she will naturally drop her coat. I am in the same position with my eldest rough, and she looks more like a smooth collie at the moment, bless her. I started giving her a coat feed two weeks ago, and I am spraying seabreeze oil on her coat every few days and I can now see new growth, although she still looks like a waifen stray!!
