Cat advice

hiya... im getting a kitten on sunday ( yeay ) thats 7 weeks old. i just need some info and advice really on at what age i should think about getting him neutered. and will it stop him venturing futher away from home to look for a female, im just worried coz i live near a park which has lots of foxes.....
would he be less agressive?
would he still urine-spray?

and also how much will it cost for him to get the snip?

i had both my kittens nuts cracked !! at 5 months, but some vets prefer to do them at 6 months. Yes having them done younger will prevent them from spraying but apparently some toms still do this but that maybe due to them being castrated at an older age. It cost me �37 per kitten but you can shop around, Value vets charge �22 but they will not castrate toms untill they are 6 months and over.

He is sooo lovely!!! I'm dead jealous!!! Especially since just loosing my poor little Saff Bag aged just 7.

He looks like a little treasure.

We got 2 kittens (brothers) 7 years ago.. and they adored each other! Saff Bag did tend to wander further than Pickle Pants... and I had them both micro-chipped as I dont agree with collars... Neutered males can still spray but not as pungent as a tom cat.. though mine only did it years ago when they were very upset with a neighouring cat attacking them in their home.
I think Males tend to be much more affectionate than females....
Have lots of fun with your new kitten and take lots of piccies.. they grow up way too fast!!!!

And I would go for Zaki.. even if he turns out to be a bit stupid!!!! We called our Saffy before we found out he was a boy! He didn't seem to mind though.. he was very very beautiful!

My female cat sprayed everywhere, and now so does my neutered tom, whereas my other neutered female doesn't spray at all. I don't think there's any rhyme or reason to it - it's a cat thing, although I do wish I could stop the male, btw apply vinegar as soon as you see the spray and the smell will disappear.

Thank you all for ur great advice. i am gonna call him zaki (as i was still considering others before) and getting him microchiped (collars are evil) and getting him neutered at 6 months. i dont live with any other cats and im sure the smell of our previous one will have faded by now lol (been 7 years) thanx for the vinigar advice hopefully i wont need it but just in case.

as for going outside for him, he wont be not untill hes alot bigger (at least 5 months old) , we dont have a garden but we have a gorgeous grassy area surrounding our massionette.

sunday wont come fast enough for me i want him now!!! lol

I presume that you will be taking him to get his jabs done at 9 weeks and 12 weeks, the vet will advise you then about neutering, which for my female cat is 6 months. Our vet gave us a free check over when we first got her at 7 weeks. They also recommend keeping them in for 6 months or at the very minimum until her vaccinations have been done - she is 9 weeks old now and desperate to get out, so I am not sure that we will wait that long!
