Kitten behaviour
20 Answers
My other half has a couple of kittens which are now about five months old - she acquired them at around eight weeks.
One of them has recently developed some odd (to me) behaviour. Whenever I stay over, I'm woken at round 5am by this wee beastie who seems intent on sitting on my head and purring like a motorboat. There's no point removing her - she just comes back and won't go away, and won't sit anywhere else.
It only happens in the wee hours and never happens to my girlfriend or anyone else in the house - it's just me.
Is this normal behaviour?

Ones of my cats does that to me, and the other to my hubby and no matter how many time you drop her on the floor she will jump back up, purrr even louder than before and sit back on your head.
I have found though, that they do tend to grow out of it and now, at a year old, my two sleep at the end of the bed, or if they are feeling very loving then my chest, but rarely my head anymore.

Awww :)
Heathcliffe is pretty good, will just come and curl up next to me though have to watch it's not by exposed skin for when the pawsys start...ouch!!!
I had to get up this morning as he was so overjoyed I woke up ridiculously early he decided to pawsy on my bare leg.
He objected to my lie in the other week by prodding my head with his paw until I woke up, tried to get back to sleep but he was having none of it :)

The other thing they do have is a fascination with a laser pen (a device no cat owner should be without). Tilda, the facehugger has this bizarre trait of sitting on the edge of the bed, staring at the dot, and gibbering like one of those wind-up clockwork skulls.
This is what happens when you get kittens from a farm in Wiltshire who have been fathered by a Real Tom.

I'm mean - my little kitty isn't allowed upstairs. She is confined to quarters at night and when we are out. That being the kids play room - she has her food, water, litter tray , about 30 beds, all her toys (and the kids - lego is a big favourite) and the patio doors to look out and gibber to the birds on next doors bird table.
Same for us, annie. Ours are confined to the kitchen and dining room at night (they have access to their cat-flap, though, and you can hear that going all through the night). We have fields at the back of our house and don't really fancy waking up to mice on the landing. :)
Also, are we the only people to close their bedroom doors when we sleep or can your cats reach the handles? :oS

If I was watching t.v. stretched out on my bed on my tummy, my dear old Tigger would come and settle down between my shoulder blades. This was ok when he was young, but as he got older he used to dribble a but, usually down my neck so I tended to discourage it in later life. He died just after we moved here four years ago and I do miss him!
Oh, Blackcat, every cat who has ever owned me (and there have been many - at one time I had five! ) has been just so different in personality and I miss each and every one of them.
I now have just the one and she is the most active and endearing of them all - totally clumsy and hyperactive at times and very, very vocal. I can't imagine life without her - she is always with us and into everything (and always being shouted at for being naughty!) She is 9 but never seems to have grown out of her kittenish behaviour).

whiskey - Lucy can't yet manage the doorhandles yet (she is about 14 weeks now) but the cat we had when we were kids, Fiddich, could cope with doorhandles and pretty much anything else. Lucy did have fun skating about on the wet table last night - just as well my OH didn't catch her as he had just cleaned it with antibac. I let her play for a few minutes before I removed her and cleaned it again!
Oh, yes - like the others have said, "Welcome to the World of Cats"!!! This is what they do - they sleep when they want to but when we want to kip, they're full of life and just want cuddles!! My Mischa comes into my bed at about 5 every morning, purring like a little train - all she wants is a hug! The older girls are quite content to sleep till I actually get up and let them out (sometimes, Romy and Cassie will have a "lie in" and not bother going out at all, till later in the morning!! (It comes with age!) Get used to it - you won't change her!! K xxx
My 'boys' Bayley and Cyder are not allowed out after dark and they sleep where they like. The only room they are not allowed in is the spare bedroom as I like to keep it free from cat hair. they get me up every morning at 6.30 on the dot, sitting on the bed and kneading me, purring and murring to let me know it is time for breakfast. Cyder will happily sleep on the bed all night but Bayley likes his radiator bed. Kitties are just such great companions, and a house is just a house until it has a cat then it is a home, and no outfit is complete without cat hair. love to all you great cat people out there.
