I thought that bats would be hibernating now, however I saw 2 around my local park this afternoon whilst walking the dog. Is it normal for them to be active this late in the year? I am in NW London if that is of any help.

Apparently so.There were a few flying around here in South Canbridgeshire this week. The Bat Conservation Trust's website currently has the question ' November:What is happening to bats now?' to which their answer is that , as the weather gets colder, bats become more sluggish and torpid and begin to hibernate. So from that, it must be that the weather has not been quite cold enough to have them all hibernating just yet.
Mine are still flitting about as well, in West Wales!

thanks to you both, I am used to seeing them around the garden in the summer, but have never seen them this late before and I would have missed them in the park yesterday, if someone else hadn't pointed them out to me as I really didn't expect to see them so weren't watching for them, if you know what I mean.
We had to evict one from one of the school halls (where I work) in central southern England a couple of weeks ago so yes they are still around.
Although bats generally hibernate they will wake and feed on milder, warm days in winter- I saw one a couple of days after last Christmas Day flitting about in broad dalight. Some males will wake and mate with hibernating females!!
Depends on food supply and there are still masses of insects around.

Here are lots of earwigs on our CCTV lense
Yes we have seen the odd one or two and we are in South Yorkshire.
