We have a 9 month old Zuchon... a cross between the Shih-tzu and Bichon Frisse. While I'm not a small dog fan (the dog belongs to Mrs. C) she is a great little dog. Very smart and a little hard headed but will respond well to a little frimness.
As to your question... we had the same problem. We tried the highly recommended pineapple (about 1/4 cup with a 1/4 cup dry food). It didn't work for us. We finally went to our Vet who gave us (free of charge) a white powder that we used on her food twice a day for five days. It worked very well. She still seems to show an inordinate interest in her "leavings", but won't eat it.
You'll also find them difficult to house train. She does pretty well but still ocasionally has an accident.
We live in the western U.S. and have always had working dogs on the ranch, so this is a new experience. I'm tempted to introduce her to our real dogs, but Mrs. C. wouldn't like that, I'm sure...
