I have a 15+ stone mastiff and he wouldn't touch anything which wasn't in his bowl and even then he looks at me for permission before he starts eating. I'm not taking any credit for training, that's just the breed. He may sometimes take dropped fruit off the floor but it's rare. At least labs aren't fussy eaters!
One good thing about my 2 labradors is that I would know that they'd be really ill if they didn't eat! I've honestly never seen either of them turn up their nose at anything!! Only trouble is that the Belgian Shepherd has learnt by example and wolfs her food down, even though she is fed in a different room to the labs. The other Belgians I've had over the years have been quite delicate eaters by comparison. Oh well dogs!! Love 'em all really!
I now have to tie my fridge shut, the gsd opens it and the lab empties it. She has today helped herself to a packet of sausage rolls. Previously she has eaten a whole cooked joint of beef and many other items left temptingly in her way.
She is now getting on in years but still steals. At least when my son was a baby, we never had to clean the floor.
