Do you think animals abuse their offspring like some human parents do?

Does a starling mother get fed up & bash her chicks, or a 3 toed sloth father sexually abuses his offspring? Or pour boiling water on them, neglect them or drown them in a fit of psychosis?

Animals other than humans certainly perform what seems to us as atrocities on their young ranging from abandonment to cannibalism.

This is rarely done in a psychotic way though, and it would give a distorted view of animal behaviour if we were to compare this to human behaviour.

Answer posters. You should have seen MWB's last post. It was pulled, which was no surprise as it was considered offensive by those who did reply.
What a very strange question. What ever prompted it?
Animals are not calculating or deliberately cruel as some humans are. Except for maybe the cat, who enjoys playing with it's prey before dispatching it, most animals behave as their species requires to mate, rear it's young, feed & protect. They may well fight amongst themselves for "top dog" status or kill the weak/ injured
It is humans who commit atrocoties with deliberate intent.
