I understand how you're feeling. Our pets are our babies and we worry about them.

Try to relax and know that the risks are very low. While he is gone, go about making his bed all nice and plumpy for him getting home again, his favourite treats and lots and lots of kisses.

Being male he will look for lots of sympathy and treats. :-)

I am sure that he will be okay, it is a routine operation for the vets. It is also the responsible thing for any dog or cat owner to do.

Neither of my dogs appeared to be in any pain or discomfort afterwards.

Best wishes for both of you.

I've just had my Westie done and he came bouncing through it and hasn't looked back at all.
I know you're hating the thought of the anaesthetic but the vets are so good and careful and the risks so low - he'll be out from under in no time - worst parts trying to keep them quiet after,
but will be thinking of you tomorrow and please let us know when he's home
I believe having males 'done' is very quick and will need anaesthetising for a very short while so risk is minimal especially if he
's young.
I had my bitch spayed and she was out of it for a day ,then all bouncy again the next as if nothing had happened even though she had loads of stitches!
My female cat was a bit sleepy for a day again, but I don't think my male cat even noticed!
It's the girls who suffer,as usual!
Don't worry,he'll be fine.

my dog had his two veg removed last year, when we went to collect him my other half thought he would have to cary him home as the car was being fixed he was fine and even managed a 10 min walk home, the vet checked the disolvable stiches 10 dayds later and all was fine a much more content dog that now no longer humps his blanket and my daughters soft toys lol

thanks for your replies, well he's gone, i have to phone at 2. so i'll be back then.
How did it go? Is he ok (if a bit lighter)?
Question Author
hi yes thank you he is absolutely fine! I was worrying totally unnessecarily! he was quiet and subdued tuesday when i picked him up but that understandable, he curled up with me on the sofa and thats where we stayed for the evening. Wed morning he was 90% back to normal and now im having trouble cos he's very bouncy and lively, wanting to play with my other dog , but the vet says until his stitches are out (another week as yet) its lead walks in the garden only and nothing strenuous.
