Fieldfare in my garden - 1st time!!!
5 Answers
I had 2 fieldfare in my garden today for the first time. I have never seen them before and was soooo excited!!
I had to get my book out and flick through it trying to discover what I had just seen!
Am I very sad or do other people get excited when they see a new visitor to their birdtable?! I love the detective work aspect to it!
You may have seen my previous post about binoculars and the reason I have decided to get new 'bins' is because my old ones are so useless they didn't help at all in zooming in on the fieldfare to give me clues about what the new visitors were.
This post isn't a question but I thought that some of you might like to share my excitement!

Equally, I have just seen a treecreeper around the park whilst walking the dog this morning, the first time I have seen one in this area, my first being on holiday last year at Center Parcs Elveden Forest.
I have also been there with the binoculars and shared the frustration at not being able to zoom in enough - will post about my bins on your other thread :)

Nice one, shivvy! They're beautiful birds, aren't they? Put some apples on the ground near where you saw it and maybe he/she will come back with some friends (maybe even some redwings, too, as they often flock together). In answer to your question, no - you're not sad! If you are, then a lot of us on here are, too!! k xx
Thanks Jules and Kleiber.
I am up to 6 fieldfare as of this afternoon (and a mistle thrush too which I haven't had either previously). Very exciting! We still have a lot of snow lying in the fields all around so I suppose they are looking for grub where they can get it. I had heard that they sometimes flock with redwing so I will put some apple out in the morning and see what happens.
