My poor doggy is at the vets....It does not look good
9 Answers
I have an 11 year old westie who has been really fit and healthy up until 3 weeks ago she has been to the vets several times and it was thought that her hips were not very good as she could not get around very well, we tried metacam, Rimadol, but nothing eased it i took her straight back to the vets this morning as she looked very fed up last night and would not get out of her bed, They are doing bloods before they do xrays, but they seem to think it could be menengitis, I am sat here going crazy waiting for the vets to ring me, Her heart rate is low and she has a high temperature, and also very very stiff.......anyone got any advice, I think they are going to say put her down when they ring!

Wait until they ring and then take their advice. If it is bad news, then remember, yo have done your best for her, and better a day too soon than a moment too late. If it is good news, then spoil her rotten when you get her home.

So sorry your little girl is poorly. Meningitis is not that common in dogs, and Aseptic meningitis usually affects large breeds aged beetween 6 months - 2 years. I believe a firm diagnosis would need to be with x rays and CT scans, and treatment over a long period with steroids.
Hope for some positive news later, let us know.

They have phoned and told me that her liver enzymes are high, and that they are going to do the xrays this afternoon, they think it is pointing to now a bone infection that is either on her spine or in her hips, i should know more later, thay say it is to early to diagnose so i just have to waite.......i hope she is ok
Hi sorry i just picked mollie up from the vets, tHer xrays show nothing, The only thing they can think of is that it is menangitis, They have gien her so many jabs, Antibiotics, to take home along with steroids
She has come home and shivered for the first 45 mins but since then she seems alittle more relaxed, i am unable to start steroids till weds as she had a lot of anti inflamatries today, and aparently you cant mix them, Her liver and spleen is enlarged but not through menengitis but she may have hepititus (enlarged liver ) and the only thing that can help that is antibiotics, She is standing up quite alert and seems good at the mo, the vets have give me 4 syringes of oramorfine if she is bad tonight, i Just wanted one last try to see if this has any effect on her.....she cost me 400 pound today, but worth a million, I hope she pulls through as 11 is not old for a westie and we love her to bits

So glad to find she is back home and is perking up - a good sign. Keeping my fingers crossed that all will be well. If I could reclaim all the money I have spent at vets over the years I would probably be a rich person - but consider myself far 'richer' to have had so many lovely pets in my life.
Love to you and little Westie. xx
