The weather here was lovely today, I was closet bird watching again. I saw three buzzards (one quite low), beautiful. A hovering kestral, and lots of garden birds, but my piece de resistonce. A red kite. Wow, wow wow, all this whilst mucking out the horses. I know some one can make me green, so go on beat me.

The red kite must have been amazing. I have had all the usual garden birds but was also watching and listening to the buzzards. They were wheeling about for ages and they have such a lovely call - I never tire of watching them

The Red kits were amazing, but like you I love to watch the buzzards, and listen to them. Its so great that we now have the Red Kite back in hants, and they seem quite at home with the buzzies.

Where in Hampshire are you? I'm asking as I live in the south of the county and I know that there are kites up near Andover
my two buzzards and a dove and some ducks wouldn't really cut the mustard then!

Todays highlight was a Bittern. Was on duty at Otmoor reserve near Oxford- Bittern was visible for most of the day at 30-40 yard range in a marshy field in hunting mode. Magical. Apart from that some 400 lapwing, only 100 golden plover today, buzzard, 2 Cettis Warblers, hundreds of assorted ducks and a stray Black Swan
I managed to see a bittern at Minsmere once burnhal - very proud of the fact! We used to get lapwing in the fields round here but they are rarely seen now
seen a scouse burd with big knocks and a small tshirt

she had a pelmet for a dress on too

I live in the Meon Valley, go up to Old Wichester Hill bensmum, an dyou'll see the Kites. A Bittern sound cool, though I do have two little Egrets nesting close by!!! Did'nt see them today though
Right - I'll have to take a trip up there soon chaffinch, I know Old Winchester Hill, thanks
If you are ever on the M40 near Stokenchurch take a look upwards. Normal to see twenty or thirty red kites. They have spread far and wide from the Chiltern Release program- seen them down near Newbury, up near Oxford, Reading, as far east as Luton- I would think all the South of England ones are offspring from that program.
Old Winchester Hill is a pretty nice place- been there a few times as my missus originates from Fareham. Little Egrets are getting pretty widespread now- seen them in Cornwall, Devon, Hampshire, Norfolk, Oxfordshire and Kent to name a few.

I have to drive to salisbury on Monday. I'll make sure I look up and report back.

This is a cool web site, some of you actually like birds!
I also live near stoke on church, Red kites over all the time, They make an amazing noise, This is really uncanny as I have seen a bird at the local river i did not know what it was so went to rspb site, it was a cormorant, !!!! Never seen one of those before.
The Red Kites from the Chilterns have spread at least far south as the Berkshire Downs - Whitchurch - S of Newbury and westwards into Wiltshire. A pretty regular sight flying with buzzards.
Not this weekend, but last weekend, after years of hoping, I finally saw an owl, A long-eared at Farlington. An hour or so later I saw a short eared quartering a field. 2 new "ticks" for me in one day. Marvellous.
Now all I need are barn owls and tawny and I've got the full set.
As an aside, I heard the first blackbird of the year singing yesterday outside my flat. Spring is on its way.
We have had three Cattle Egrets here last week. We get loads of Little Egrets here in East Devon but not many Cattle Egrets.
