nose bleed

what do i do if my dwarf hamster nose is bleeding.does it stop on it's own or should i be worried

As hamsters are so small any visible loss of blood could be a large proportion of its total blood volume.  Take it to the vet.

If it is truly blood, I would be worried.  Recently in Canada there was an outbreak of tulermia in hamsters sold in pet stores, and tuleramia is transmittable to humans.  No one seems to know where they picked it up.

Also, if your hamster is caged with another hamster, that could be a cause.  Hamsters are not known to be social creatures and kept confined in small cages together they will fight, usually until the death or paralysis (which usually ends in death) of the smaller and weaker housemate.  Most owners do not realize that this is what is going on, however, since this action usually takes place late at night, as hamsters are nocturnal.

Rodent tears are tinged a reddish color, and sometimes when they have severe upper respiratory infections, their eyes run, and run down into thier noses, causing them to sneeze and splatter small red droplets on their bedding, cage walls, etc.  It can kind of look like blood, especially when it crusts up around the nostrils.

Either way, this doesn't bode well for your little companion, and I completely agree with rekstout - veterinary advice is needed.

im afraid this often happens before they die...i dunno..it mite just be a one-off, but id be very careful.  Is it drinking and eating?  If it is this is a good sign, and watch its sleeping patterns.  If they change then it may be a bad sign.
