Frankie's been shot.

My gorgeous ginger tom Frankie became ill and listless last night, so trip to emergency vet. Kept in over night and given pain killing injection and antibiotics. No better this morning. Very high temperature which wouldn't come down, so this afternoon he was sedated and x-rayed, and an air rifle pellet was found lodged in the wall of his abdomen. Fortunately it appeared to have missed his vital organs. He was operated on this afternoon to remove the pellet which had set up an infection. Latest news, he has survived the operation but is still very ill. So will be staying at vets for the time being. The police are going to collect the pellet from vets so that they can identify the type of air-rifle used. Hoping for a full recovery, but the worrying thing is there are small children who live next door, plus other pets around our small, rural, and very quiet cul-de-sac. How sick can some people be, it's beyond me. Some hooligan on the loose with an air-rifle is scary, and I hope for the animals and childrens sake that the person responsible is soon caught.

My Felix and the little kitten (next door), who Frankie plays with have both been looking for him all day.

Hi again, Schutz:
Sorry to "bug" you again - this has been preying on my mind - just wondering what I would do if this happened to our little fluffy fleabags?
I know that you've got the Police involved, don't forget the RSPCA, and, fingers crossed, you'll get a positive result, but I know only too well that the real way to hope to get to the bottom of it is to try to get the message out there about what happened.
Please don't think I'm trying to teach you how to "suck eggs", I'm just wondering if the following could help at all?
Within reason, get some posters up locally appealing for information(And, yes, I realize that fly posting's technically an offence), but we all have our local newsagent's, local radio, post office, pubs, shops, schools, youth club etc etc. It's just possible that someone may see it who knows someone with an air rifle? Still won't prove they did it, but could have the desired effect of nipping it in the bud before it happens again?
Some people, including yourself, may read this and think I'm off my trolley, and I probably am, but I just wanted to put this your way in case you needed any suggestions?
Wish I could "loan" you our ginger tom until you get Frankie back. Best wishes.

I thought i might add a further comment on this thread before I head off.
Very sorry to hear about your adorable cat.
How would they like to have the same thing done to them I wonder? Only a sick person would do such a thing.
I offer you my sympathies, as you must feel really heartbroken about what happened.
I hope the health of your cat improves, and I send my best regards to you.
Take care!

It's a beautiful, sunny day here in Stockholm. Hope it is where you are too Schutz and that you are presently on your way home with Frankie. Paraffin makes a very good point just as long as you don't aggravate that sicko. You have a local paper? Ask them to do a story on what happened, let them take your photo with Frankie - hopefully anyone with information will contact you even if you don't ask for it straight out.
I tried to leave a message this morning but my Frankie spilled a glass of water all over my keyboard and I had to buy a new one (new keyboard not cat that is).
I really hope that Frankie makes a full recovery. I can't imagine what type of human would do this to any animal. They are beneath contempt. I wish them bad karma.
Keep us updated - and try and not make yourself ill worrying about him. I am sure that he will be well and driving you nuts in no time.
And best love from my Frankie xx
