Ridding my garden of moles

Anyone know of a humane way of getting rid of moles from my garden?

I was a pest controller for 13 years and specialised in Mole erradication, The only kind way to rid moles is to kill them effectively!! Do not use the catch and release type, a mole will usually die of dehydration or hunger or even a heart attack, to use them any way near effectively you need to check them every 4 hours, if you do check them that often, no mole will go near it!! Do the Mole a really favour, leave it alone or kill it effectively with a Duffus or tunnell trap! using moth balls and other smelly things down the holes will just move the mole to another area and make the problem 10 times worse, kill it or leave it!!

Hah moles! Tell me about it. Our 'lawn' gets dug by the moles and then Billy badger has a go - or is it the other way around? Then, if anything is left growing, the SLUGS have a go!

Hi there,

There are a few different methods of repelling moles from your garden without harming or causing too much distress.

Options:

1) Bio fume mole smokes. This small smoke canisters contain castor oil. Simply place one of these smokes into the tunnels or mole hills and lit the fuse. This will disperse the castor oil around the tunnel network. The theory behind using castor oil is that it makes the earthworms, the moles favourite meal, distasteful and they leave to look for better food. 2) Sonic devices. Sonic mole deterrents work by sending bursts of vibrations through the ground. You must remember to get enough units for the product to work. The more 'solid' 'denser' the ground the less units required as vibrations travel better through solid objects. Moles are very timid creatures and this short burst of vibrations will frighten them away.

3) Humane mole traps. This is a live catching mole trap available of the market today. It's a small plastic tube which can be placed directly in the tunnel system. I have found one these kind of traps at http://www.ppcsupplies.co.uk/PSHMOLE

I think that these are the only humane ways of dealing with moles in the garden.

There are mainly two types of mole control you can take with your mole problem that is not only humane but also non-toxic to both to the lawn, people or any pets you may have. The first type are granules and they emit smells of its predators which will cause the mole to retreat far away as possible if you sprinkle some granules around their tunes and near entrances and exits. They are not very expensive and are very low maintenance. The other type of mole control you could get are liquid mole repellents which are sprayed over the affected areas. Along with the granules, the liquid spray will not harm the mole but will cause the little bugger to keep away from sprayed areas. Using either of one of these methods should rid your mole problem and you don't have to worry about hurting the mole.
