Boxer bleeding from penis - why?

Our one-year old boxer drips blood from his penis, sometimes it seems to be diluted to a pinky colour but sometimes it's bright red. Our vet thinks it's due to kidney stones, but the treatment prescribed resulted in a very short-term improvement (about a week) and now the problem is back again. Does anyone know what else this could be before I go and pay for more expensive advice and treatment?

I don't know about Boxers in particular, but sometimes a dog has more than one kidney stone, and it takes time to pass them all.  You've got a vet on the case, and it's best to follow his advice.  If the problem persists, report it back to your vet - sometimes kidney stones (like some other ailments) requires more than one treatment.  Good luck to you and your pooch!

may be stones or cystitis (prob had antibiotics and this cleared up in the short term).  for some reason some dogs regularly affected.  may have to change his food but will definately need vet treatment
