Otter Spraint?

I visit a Nature Reserve frequently and have found "Scent Markings"? I want to be sure and keep it quiet for now. I'm sure it's a not Mink, though one is on the reserve. I believe Mink poo smells more like Polecat - What an unsavory question - Soz but this is great if what is suspected is correct - I will Google etc, but I am up for all the info' I can gather - Thanks in anticipation - Wotty

Basically mink poo stinks to high heaven. Otter is smelly but more of a fishy smell. Otters tend to do it in very visible or prominent places as territory markers. Where abouts? I do voluntary warden work at Otmoor in Oxfordshire. We have the odd mink but otters are re-appearing and leaving tell-tale signs- spraints and a nice slide!!
Why do you want to keep it quiet? At least speak to the reserve staff!
It is noticeable that where otters are making a comeback the mink tend to move out which is good news- not only for the otters but also for water voles, although otters will take one if they can, they cant get their heads down the holes like mink can.

I've actually seen 2 of them tonight and have contacted the warden - This is the first sighting after a long absence - Thanks - Steve
