My daughter has been offered two male kittens from the Cats Protection League and my question is - generally, are male cats less friendly than females ?

Hey Derek, long time no post, where the devil have you been? You well?

I've not got massive experience with cats, always been a dog lady- but I've had both male and female cats over the years and i've found their nature is down to a particular cat rather than the sex of it.

I've had male cats who have been soppy as sacks, then some so aloof they'd give the Queen a run for her money.

Hello, lovely BOO ! Great hear from you.

I've been around but I have gravitated to the oily bits in Motoring these days.

Here ! Have you noticed they've purloined our Twittering bit and are making massive profits out of our bit of fun ? We both missed an opportunity there, BOO.

Oh, thanks for your answer !

XXX Derek
The two male cats, (neutered), that I have at present are very friendly and affectionate, as have been the male cats I've had over the years, but some of them have not been interested in being friendly to visitors they don't know, and tended to go off and do their own thing until the visitors left. They seemed to prefer their own family.
I have had cats all my life and have generally found the males to be friendlier. However it is down to the individual cat as Boo says.
I have also found males to be friendlier....the ones I've had-including my current one-are positively soppy!
All of my cats have always been friendly. Ginger, Tibby and Snoopy were all male. Tigger and Blue and female. Once they are "done" they are quite placid creatures.
Until you try to give them any pills Tiggerblue then they turn into spitting balls of fury, with seemingly more teeth and claws then they they orginally started off with.
My two are brother and sister.

Frankie is just an overgrown kitten and is a lovely natured cat.

His sister, Princess Merlin, has a good nature sometimes. However the gas man went to stroke her a couple of weeks ago and was saved by his big thick gloves. She lunged at him without any warning. She also has paws like boxing gloves.

They are all very individual. But I think that males are friendlier as a rule - they get the girls pregnant and bolt. The lady cats have to protect not only herself but a load of kittens.

I am sure that the CPL will give you cats that are suited to your daughter's situation and they will know the nature of the kittens concerned.

Kittens are evil!

Well quite BOO. And don't forget the "getting them in their box for the vet" episode and bath time. The blood stains are still on the ceiling. My blood, not the cats btw!
haha yeah Tiggs, my old gal who died a couple of years ago, once had to be on a course of anti-biotics for a week, I can't remember what for now, but I still have the scars to prove it.
I still have the scars from the one and only time I ever attempted to give Snoopy a bath! The shredded wheat look is not a good one.
Caspar must be incredibly stupid,as he almost willingly goes in his cat box......and as for the bath,my daughter has....on occasion..dipped his bottom in fairly deep water. This because as a semi-long haired white moggy, sticky-on bits is not a good look...
Funnily enough I have only just been made aware by my vet that cats have anal glands that they spray poop from. I didn't have a clue before even though my 2 always walk around with their tails erect.

Sorry if you are all eating dinner but I had to let everyone know about my enlightenment.
Thanks tig...luckily not eating. But typing one-handed as Caspar is holding the other hand and using my arm as a pillow......;-)
My pleasure Pasta! Lol
we have only had boys so I dont have anything to compare with, but my make cats have always been very affectionate.

ankle biters but affectionate............

I have 3 Girls and 1 Boy and my boy is the loveliest, snuggliest kitty ever. The girls are snooty and keep to themselves, although 1 girl is attention seeking but in an over-friendly claws-in-your-face annoying way.
Boys (if from kittens) all the way!
xx
We've always had both sexes and providing you have them snipped, especially the males, you should find that they are sloppy and friendly.

denutted boys only though......
