I have just spent the weekend at a friends caravan in Lancashire just south of Lancaster. I am sure I saw feeding from a seed box a crested tit. Looking at my reference books however suggests that they are confined to Scotland. Can anyone help with what it might have been. It was a double for the picture in the book.
The last recorded Crested Tit in England was 10th April 1945.
At this time of year most members of the Tit family can look dishivelled as they are feeding young.Depending on the habitat that you saw the bird i would hazzard a guess that you saw a Coal Tit.
