Dog urine ruining lawn

Is there anything we can put in our dogs water to stop his urine scorching the lawn ? I have heard of 'dog rocks' but wondered if there was another method, like something to put into his food ? All suggestions welcome and thanks!

I seem to remember the same question on here a few months back: wasn't you was it?

Because from what I recollect, nobody could offer a viable solution.

I'm sure I suggested something like turning your lawn into a patio. I don't think there is any magical solution to the problem.

Tough. If you want a dog you have to cope with dog sh-t and p!ss. It's what dogs do. They are lovable and wag their tails and lick you, but they also sh-t and p!ss everywhere, wonderful for kids running around. Dogs are a threat to public health.

Not a dog lover whifffs............my dog is never let off a lead outside and I poop scoop so how is he a hazard?

Maybe you can have a paved section of the garden, which is fenced off from the rest and only allow the dog to use that part. You can then use Jeyes fluid and hose down well with water regularly.

OK smart alec, and pray how do you scoop up dog urine then ? I asked for simple answers not an attack at dog owners, not all are irresponsible, the majority of us DO clean up after our dogs thank you very much !!!

Take a full watering can and dilute the dog pee.

It might be too late depending on age of the dog, but you can train it to go in one area only.
Make it a sand-pit or something, with a post he can lift his leg against if male.
Then all you hve to do is keep that one area cleaned up.

My daughter has just bought a `Pee Post' from Pets at Home - you bash it into the ground and it's scented to attract the dog to urinate against it. Then you can thoroughly water the area after. They have a whole range of pee/poo products, have a look at their web-site

I used to have a brown lawn so I can understand your dilemma. I used to try and soak the patch that had been weed on to see if I could dilute the urine. It didn't really work.

I think someone mentioned tomato sauce in the food,it supposedly neutralises the acid

There are several products available at bigger pet stores which claim to solve this problem, but one thing I was told by a vet was if your dog is fed on dry food, then take half the day's ration and soak it for five minutes in warm water, then add it back to the rest of the day's feed, and give it to the dog.

This apparently introduces more fluid into the dog's sytem which then dilutes the amount of ammonia in the urine, which is what causes the grass to become discoloured.
Haven't tried it (I have gravel and paving slabs) but if you feed dry then it might be worth a go.
