Anyone know of a site I could use to try and identify a bird in the garden. I have tried the RSPB site, but still don't know what it is.
It's like a sparrow with a slightly longer tail and has some white feathers along its wings and in its tail. It also has a tuft of dark feathers on the back of its head.
Many thanks for any help.

Many thanks, that is the nearest I have got to solving this!
One of the biggest problems at this time of year is the appearance of fledglings. Much like the adults but somehow not the same- tufrs on heads are often fledglings and chaffinch does sound about right

Thanks Steve, but I think the others are right--saw it this morning and the tufts are much smaller now, so probably a baby bird.
Thanks everyone for your interest and help--I so love my garden birds!
