We were at Eilan Donan Castle recently and saw three birds of prey in the sky close by. By the time I had fitted the long lens to my camera they had disappeared. Does anyone have any idea as to what they could have been?

Most likely buzzards. But there are golden eagles and sea eagles in the area.

Any information on colour or size?

Skye Birds will give you more information on what's in the area.

Thank you for such a quick answer. They were larger than a kestrel and pale underneath, with splayed "fingers" on the ends of their wings
If they were soaring, probably the eurasian buzzard.

There are some nice pics of other birds you might have missed at Scottish Raptor Group gallery.
We were near Plockton two years ago and we saw Golden Eagles , so they maybe what you saw.A wonderful sight to be hold. We will never forget it.g.
