Now there's a deliberately provocative question.

Personally I feel that our design was based on primates but has been enhanced by un-feasibly rapid evolution or extra terrestrial species.

Would go into greater depth about the symbolism/existence of original "Adam & Eve" but I'd be here all day!

On the evolution argument, we are not descended from monkeys. Man and apes are both descended from primeval apes, and somewhere the group split into various sub-species of which man is one. As to the 'Adam And Eve' argument - that depends on the religious perception of the individual.
I could never work this one out.  I mean, were Adam and Eve cavemen (I mean cavepeople, have to be PC) ?  They seem quite civilised.

Adam and Eve were symbollic - representing early humans.

As people, they never existed in their own right

Do we come from monkeys?

No

Is evolution true,

Yes

or did we come from Adam and Eve?

No

Some people say we evolved from monkeys. But if there was supposed to be a certain gene, that monkeys had which turned us from monkeys or apes into mankind, what happened to it? as there are still apes and monkeys??????
fact of the matter is, no-one truly knows, sure scientists will tell you htey know best and religious people will say they KNOW best as well, leaving my opinions out of it - i'd say the best way would be to devote your entire life to searching for the truth and looking at both sides of the argument and if your still sane give us a bell.  or you could just chill and take a leap of faith

i just loooove chiron's answer.<takes chill pill and leap of faith>

Adam and Eve were symolic of mankind/womankind in general (I have taken the trouble of explaining a question about incest with a non-believer).

We are therefore descended from Adam & Eve (mankind/womankind).  But you should know that Adam & Eve (mankind/womankind) were actually placed on earth by extra terrestials as an ecological test.

How do you think we are doing so far.....?

I thought the earth was just a big reality show, where producers put different species from many different planets on the same one to watch the resulting chaos!!

i like newtrons answer.

o and yes, we really came from two people (sarcasm sarcasm sarcasm)

For those who consider the Bible to be nothing more than a story then Adam and Eve won't even figure in their thinking regarding their ideas about where we come from.

Those who believe in the Bible also have different views on this. It depends on whether someone takes the story of Adam and Eve to be literal or more of a legend. The Old Testament was originally written in Hebrew. The word Adam means "man" in Hebrew and the word "Eve" means "life".

As for evolution, there is such a lot to support this, but as bernardo indicates it seems that we didn't come from monkeys. Now, where did I put that banana? :)

Eye think Darwin was almost there though.

Its one of them questions, where we will never find the answer, and we could go on for ever searching for it!

If we came from monkeys ,then howcome there are still monkeys that have not turned into human beings?

If we came from adam and eve, then we are all interbred!, and where did different coloured skin and different nationalities come from?,I could go on and on asking questions but until theres proven evidence no one can really answer !!

RevShirls, if we came from monkeys, then how come I can't STAND bananas? Huh?

Maybe you're in denial, slimfandango ;)

I'm just reading Darwin's book(s) "The Desent of Man" in which the word "evolution" was used for the very first time. Extremely interesting. I tend to go with the theory of evolution although it does seem that we're not descended from monkeys. Having said that, I look at some people and wonder....

If you want a good, understandable explanation of the evolution of species, in particular human beings, I strongly advise you to read A short history of nearly everything, by Bill Bryson. I've just finished it, and it's a mine of information, while remaining easy to read and even quite funny at times.
