Biting beetles

Friendsof ours have described being bitten by a sort of flying beetle about the size of a small ladybird and black. These actually drew blood. One of them had around a dozen bites.What could these be?
(They're in Surrey)

Ladybirds can bite but perhaps it was one of the plant bugs, such as the mirid bug? Plant bugs have moutparts that pierce plant stems so I'd imagine they could draw blood.

Thanks Padanarm. I've googled the MiridBug, but I don't think that is what it was. These were smaller and "squarer" if you see what I mean!
