Cat using door mat as toilet

My cat has started to pee (and worse!) on the front door mat - after 14 yrs of using a litter tray. Help! How can I re-train her - and why is she doing this?

14? Maybe it's old age.

take her to the vet to get checked out for illnesses, urinary tract, dementia etc ( I hope it's something that a course of anti-bugs can sort)

Shame poor old kitty. Try putting his litter box by the mat. Or remove mat for awhile and putlitter box by there.

maybe a protest. certainly get rid of the doormat, or get an outside one. if she's peed on it before, she's likely to do it again. put the litter tray in the spot where she has peed and gently move it farther from the spot over a gradual period of time. make sure the tray is also spotlessly clean - mine pee/poo in protest if it smelss in the slightest. i spend my life digging out poo and change litter at least every threee days, but its worth it. good luck x

yes do remove the mat the sent from previous mess is still there so will do it again by a cleaner to mask sent and he will soon use his tray again

thanks for all your answers, I'll get her checked out at the vet and try some of your suggestions.

And as for stapling her you-know-what...... 14 yrs old she may be, but she's a vicious little bugg3r, I'd like to see you try!
