I agree, ask your vet *before* it ever happens! My dog started choking once. I didn't know what to do, but it was obvious I had to do something or else she would die. The dog was panicked and tried to run away, but running won't do them any good!!! I caught the dog and had to force her mouth open with my hands. She was fighting me off and tried to bite me, only because she was frightened. So I held her down to the floor by straddling her, then pried her jaws apart with my hands. I could see the piece of food that was causing her to choke, way far back there in her throat. I reached my hand in all the way and pulled the food out. (No time to be squeamish.) That made her instantly able to breathe again. She then jumped up and ran away and hid, where she caught her breath. Five minutes later she was fine and happy and had forgotten all about it. But it was pure luck that I saw the blockage and could pull it out. I don't know what I would have done otherwise. Best to ask your vet before it ever happens.
