Dog breeders

I am trying to find a shetland sheepdog breeder in the East Midlands. Can anyone help?

Don't know of one but best advice is to approach the breed club and get the name of one through them. Please don't be tempted to go to a puppy farm, (if they advertise lots of different breeds then they are best avoided).
Always see the puppy with it's mum and the rest of the litter and preferably the sire as well. A good breeder will 'interview' you, to ensure that the pup is going to a good home. If you are drawn to see some pups and then find that they have lied to you as sometimes happens, don't take one. These people rely on you falling for the pup once you have seen it.

Go to the Kennel Club. They'll give the name and particulars of the breed club and secretary nearest to you: 0870 6066 750 or go to their website, under breed standards ( clubs are listed at the bottom of the page for each breed)

I wouldn't trust any other website to find you a reputable breeder of a breed, rather than some puppy farmer who has the breed

Any of the above club secretaries will be able to give you a list of club members who occasionally breed, but it will be up to you to contact them and do your own checking. They will be club members, but the advice given above about finding a puppy is very sound. Please do not get one from any of the internet sites as you have no guarantees, they may not even be pedigree.

The websites just give you an idea of who in your area, is breeding the type of dog you want. Some are pedigree and some aren't. You would still need to do the normal checks.

In most cases you can see both parents and the puppies are pedigree. If the ad says you can't see the mother I would avoid it. But these sites are no different to looking in your local paper or an ad in your Vets. There are no guarantees.
