We have a beautiful Mainecoon tom cat he's 9 years old and is fit as a fiddle and doing everything he should be doing but he's lost half his weight he's now only 5.7 kg.The vet has done blood and urine tests and he's anemic and his kidney results are in the risk rating. We have put him on to a commercial renal diet I am also cooking for him and will monitor his weight. He'll go back to the vets within the month to be checked again.Has anyone any ideas of anything else we can do our cats usually live to in their twenties and I would like to keep him happy and healthy for as long as possible.

i take it the vet has checked his thyroid and for diabetis
I have no idea either but maybe something alternative although I'm not sure what - maybe google it. They are beautiful cats - I'm sure one of mine has some mainecoon in him and he is about 4 ft at full stretch - is your guy big?

Thank you every one for help the vets checked every thing like thyroid etc all clear. He's a huge boy he's so long he can reach onto the kitchen worktop with his front paws when standing up.This is a little trick he likes to do to see if there is anything he can pull off to either eat or play with.I'm going to do my best to keep him happy and healthy for as long as possible He is a joy to have and I would recommend this breed to anyone as he's so easy going and gets on well with the dog. Thanks again
